Making Accelerated Reader A Success in Your Classroom

Set A.R. goals based on STAR reports Set aside time for daily reading practice

STAR Assesses student’s overall

reading ability (determines reading level, i.e. 3.4)

Administered several times a year (Fall, Winter, Spring)

Reinforce to students the importance of this assessment

Monitor students while taking assessment

Share assessment results with students and parents in a timely manor

STAR Early Literacy Given to students in pre-

kindergarten through third grade

Administered in the fall, winter, and spring

Assesses what students know about letters, letter sounds, numbers, shapes, and words

Adjusts the level of difficulty of items for each student

Use reports to tailor instruction to students’ individual needs
