I started out my high school experience on a good foot. I went to William Sayre High School and I got involved in the Cardiology program. I have always been interested in science and medicine and this program helped me to get started. We

I was also involved in Students Run Philly Style. Which was a marathon program put together for the youths to have something to do after school. Also to help raise awareness on how exercise helps. To me this program was much more because the coaches helped if you ever had a problem, they were like mentors to us.

I graduated from High School with Honors. I made the National Honors Society. I had 29 credits after leaving high school. I was

proud of myself but the journey didn’t end there it was just beginning.

I soon after I joined the Pittsburgh Job Corps program and got involved with there Health Occupation Field, where I took a course in Medical Office Support. Through them I earned my National Healthcareer Association Certification in Medical Administrative Assistant. I also earned my CPR certification, First Aid Certification and my Water Safety certification through the program.

I have learned a few skills along the way going through this program . I am able to: type 50 wpm , 175 kspm, Knowledge of

Microsoft Office Suite, Knowledge of medical terminology, Excellent communications skills, Conflict resolution skills, Water

safety, Filing, Proper phone etiquette.

I volunteered in several programs through the Pittsburgh Job Corps. One of these programs was the Rainbow Kitchen. Where we helped stock food for the less fortunate. Another of these programs was the Veterans Hospital, where we assisted the elder. I found both these experiences to be educational and uplifting. I have also done some filing with the Off Center

Training department, which helped me to put my medical office support skills to use.

I took advantage of all the opportunity that the Pittsburgh Job Corps offers. I went on to enroll in there college program, which is a joint partnership with CCAC. I am intending to major in Pharmacy Technician. The reason I chose this field is so I could explore my option in the medical field to see what I am best suited for.

We recently had a debate within our Pre-College class and my team won. My team mates and I worked hard and out the extra effort that was needed to win because we wanted to ensure that we received or sponsorship. And our hard work payed off.

My goal is to successfully complete college and obtain a job in the field of my studies and to go on to further my education so that I can receive my Masters.
