{Codes and conventions on rock music genre

• Rock music originated as "rock and roll" in the United States in the 1950s, and developed into a range of different styles in the 1960s. It Later became popular in the USA and UK.

• It has its roots in 1940s' and 1950s' rock and roll was heavily influenced by rhythm ,blues and country music. Rock music also drew strongly on a number of other genres such as blues and folk, and incorporated influences from jazz and classical.

• The first presentations of “Rock and Roll” bands was found in the various ‘rock-ability’ groups that started in mid and late 1950’s. These groups are Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jonny Burnette and the Rock and Roll trio Chuck Berry in 1953 to 1956.

• In the early fifties, the problem of ‘rock-ability’ was the fact that a lot of parents objected to the suggestive language of the fresh sound and many radio stations avoided playing them.

Where did it originate from?

dark clothing, with a messy hairstyle.

• Tattoos and piercings are often found among rock artists.

• Many rock artists can also be found wearing make-up,

mostly dark eyeliner.

• Artists will often be in bands, who play

instruments (Guitars, drums)

• This hand symbol is representative of rock.

• Photo-shoots: they are often done in a hierarchical order. The main singer always being at the front and drummer at the back. This often resembles how they perform on stage.

• Lighting: Strobe and LED lighting are often used in concerts. For videos the lighting is often quite dark to resemble the genre, or song they are singing.

• Videos: Music videos often have a meaning/story to them. Also there is often a scene were the band is all playing together, like in concert.
