The Certificate and Audience Question 4 : Who would be the audience for your media product We looked into the different film certificates and we studied what type of action and dialog was allowed in each before coming to the conclusion that our film would be rated 15. We decided to make our film a 15 rated because we didn't plan to have any gore or foul language in out film. Actually our film could probably be able to be classed as a 12 or a 12A but we didn't want to have to abide by the more strict rules of a 12 if we decide change or add to our film in the future. 15 Year olds usually like to see horror films with friends to 'prove that they aren't scared' so we though we would make more profit aiming for this age range. Most horror films are either rated 15 or 18 mainly because they are usually made to be too scary/shocking for the younger audience and they also include a killer so gore is a big part of it which isn't allowed in lower certificate titles. Before we made our film we conducted a horror film audience survey to find out the things they like to see in horror films and also the things they usually see in horror films, from this we could easily see what type of conventions would attract the public and what things we should probably include in our film, this also gave us a good idea of where if anywhere in out film we would have been challenging the typical horror conventions which can be a very smart thing to do if you are able to do it well.
