Introduction

At present vegetables are very important crop and cultivated in an area of 37.22 million hactores with an annual production of 630.75 metric ton . Vegetable growers face a number of problems during the production process . In this study we tried to identify those field level problems of farmers .

Objectives

To asses the nature and extent of constraints faced by farmers during the cultivation of vegetables .

To determine and describe the selected characteristics of commercial vegetable grower .

Methodology

Location of the study – shutiakhali of vobokhali union under mymensing sadar upazilla of mymensingh district. Population and sample – 20 farm families were selected for data collection . Selection of variables – 9 characteristics of farmers were selected as independent variable and 1 was dependent variable .

Summery

Age- Age of the farmers ranged from 25-68 years with an average of 39 .

Education- Ranged from 0-12 years of schooling with an average 4.5 Family size- ranged from 3-10 members with an average of 5.65. Farm size – ranged from .03-2.66 ha with an average of .90 . Annual income – ranged from 80000-330000 taka with an average of

165955 Training- ranged from 0-3 years , nearly 55% received the training Credit – ranged from 0-1 , nearly 60% received the credit facility

Farming experience – ranged from 5-50 years with an average of 16.6

Conclusion On the basis of our findings following conclusion can be

drawn – Lack of training facility and communication

gap with extension agents were observed .Poor seed quality and adulterated fertilizer

was considered as major problems .

Recommendation

DAE needs to arrange more training programme for vegetable growers

Communication gap between grower and extension agent needs to be minimized .

BADC needs to supply more qualified or disease resistant seeds

Government needs to be more rigid about taking action against adulterated fertilizer producers .
