Why was the Korea trip a great learning journey for me

It was NOT the food, places of interest or the scenery that influenced me the most…

But…. guess what?

It was the PEOPLE we met along the way.

Ms Kim Mikyun, a 27 years old CEO and co-founder of CIZION

The first thing that struck me the moment I saw Miss Kim was “At last a young female entrepreneur!”

Female entrepreneurs who have the guts to step out of the norm and venture into the unknown.

Ms Kim and her team persevered for 3 years on meagre incomes.

The unique characteristics of many Korean start-ups that we visited was that that they all started with a mission to solve problems in a society.

Ms Kim is one example of an inspirational figure who started a company to help people

Ms Kim was saddened by the increasing number of suicide cases of celebrities in Korea due to cyber-bullying

She set out to create a solution to mitigate the trolling and flaming behaviours of netizens.

Learning Points from Ms Kim

Important to venture into start-ups at a young age as there is nothing much to lose while we’re young.

Go for social ventures to help to solve problems for

the society

A lot of companiesmerely work on

developing a vitamin

“I feel that instead of a vitamin”

“We should work to provide a vaccination”

What I got away from this experience

My mindset was changed for the better

I became less absorbed by the fact that I wanted to start my own business because I want to make money out of it.

Instead, I am now motivated to become an entrepreneur who can impact the society in a better, positive way

Planted a seed of entrepreneurial spirit in me

which grew to great heights months later...

Together as a team, we started Quest.

2. Build Global Social NetworkFriendships are not easy to build. Through this trip, I had so much fun learning and studying about Korea together with my Korean friends.



3. Cherish what I have nowBy learning from people’s footstep and past events, I understand how difficult life was in the past. It is important to cherish the culture and traditions in Singapore and hopefully pass down to the next generation.

● Experience of visiting a BIG company is never the same as visiting a start-up

● At a start-up, students get to listen to the start-up journey of the founder

● Understand that behind every success story, there is hardwork and perseverance

● If you want to inspire and motivate students, this is one good way to do it!

● All of us really enjoyed this session● It is therapeutic● More importantly, it reminds us of the importance of

preserving one’s culture

● It need not be a rice-cake making session though● Perhaps it is a kimchi-making session, perhaps its

something else.● Just let your students experience the culture of Korea!● And remind them how beautiful their own culture is ….

Our recommendations

● We had a pitching session with the students of Seoul National University of Technology (SNUT)

● But as the session was one that had a ‘competitive streak’, it was not conducive for bonding
