Aims to gather the opinion of journalists and people working in the media on this emerging field and understand what the training needs are. The survey is done by the European Journalism Centre, a non-profit organization which aims to help journalists do their work better especially through trainings, conferences and seminars. It is done in collaboration with Mirko Lorenz, DW. The survey is still running so what I’m going to present are some preliminary results.

Over half of the respondents that work in online media are already engaged with data journalism [not sure about this, could be because of the small number of respondents]. The online media and magazines are more likely to get started with data-driven journalism in the next 6 months than broadcasters. More than half of the broadcasters and about half of the newspapers don’t have immediate plans to start.

Which of the issues that you report on might benefit from raw data? (health, education, crime were given as examples) All is prominent which means that data is considered very important in all fields.
