Vocabulary

1. Blog – Something like a website but it changes daily

2. Avi-short for avatar (Profile picture)

3. Book Me- Write me on Facebook

4. Tweets – Status updates on Twitter

5. Follow Me – Follow my status updates on Twitter

6. @ - using the @ symbol on Twitter and Facebook serve the same

purpose: it will tag the name of the person or group you are

mentioning.

7. Hashtags–(#) Hashtags are a way to put conversations in specific categories. A

hashtag is the # symbol followed by a word (ex: #humor). These are used when you

want to participate in or follow a discussion on a specific subject or event. It’s a bit like

having a separate “room” for a specific discussion such as #followfriday, #pr, #dancing

#parenting #quote. You can access this “room” and check on the chatter by searching

for the hashtag using Twitter search box located in the right column of your twitter

home page. You may find this site interesting, www.hashtags.org

8. #FF – “Follow Fridays” It is a twitter social convention where you Tweet the

names of Twitter users you'd like others to follow and hashtag it with #followfriday or

#ff. The concept can be compared attending a school pep rally and receiving a public

“attaboy” from a well-liked peer. It’s a compliment to someone to have you recommend

them by their Twitter name on Follow Friday.

9. RT – “Re- Tweet” This is when you repost something someone else has said so that

your followers see it. Do this by typing the letters RT, then space, then @username,

then copying their tweet in its entirety including the odd looking link at the end. This is

considered a huge compliment in the Twitter World. You can also add your own opinion

(e.g. funny or well written) if there is space. Total characters allowed remains 140.

10. DM – Direct message

11. RSS-

12. Domain-

13. FTP-

14. Hosting site –

15. Newsfeed-

Introduction

Technology is essential in the world of education. If used correctly

technology can serve as an impactful tool in the classroom. The iPod,

Facebook, Twitter, iPod, sound cloud, Linkedn, Pinterest, dropbox,

iTunes and more media outlets can all be creatively used to integrate

technology in the classroom. Notice how I said, “if” used correctly.

Technology is only as good as the teacher controlling it. Not being

knowledgeable on the technology will not be beneficial to you nor your

students. You cannot use technology if you fail to learn how to operate

all its functions. Today I will quickly show you how to develop your

own blog. I will also demonstrate how you can create a Twitter account

to helpstudents and teachers communicate beyond office hours and

classrooms.

Before I begin there is a short Quiz in front of you, please take a couple

of minutes to complete.
