Use four batteries (DC 1.5v). Pull out the battery compartment and place the batteries correctly. Push in

The Rafflesia is an enormous flower that is found only in the rainforests ofSoutheast Asia. It was discovered in the Indonesian rainforest in 1818 and was named after Sir Stamford Raffles.

The Rafflesia is a parasite. It grows on other plants. It does not have leaves or stems. Only the buds and flowers can be seen. They are usually found on the forest floor but sometimes they can be seen above the

ground. The bud looks like a reddish-brown cabbage. It takes between nine

to 21 months to mature and bloom. It normally blooms at night and takes from seven to 18 hours. The flower is red with white spots. It has five petals. Each petal can measure about 1 m long and weigh about 1 kg. The flower gives out a very bad smell that is like rotting meat. That is why it is often called ‘corpse flower’. It lasts about five to seven days. After that, it turns black and rots.
