DESCRIPTION

This is my capstone project for my M.S. in Instructional Technology from Texas A&M University at Texarkana. The program was 100% online and introduced me to training and online teaching possibilities that I did not know existed. This training is for secondary education teachers who want to lean how to effectively use their Nook Color instructively.

• A formal report analyzing student pre- and post-surveys and checklists results will be compiled in narrative forms illustrated by Microsoft spreadsheets and charts. I will enter the knowledge assessment’s raw scores into Microsoft Excel Program and request an embedded column chart to compare results with the surveys and checklists.

• The knowledge assessment will be worth 100 points. For each of the assessments, I will add the scores of the 10 trainees and divide the sum total by the number 10 to obtain the group’s mean score to see if there is a causal effect of using multimedia.

• For the score of the surveys completed by the trainees/teachers, I will add all choices and divide the sum by 3 to get the sample means for the survey. If the sample means is above 1.5, it will indicate a positive response to the multimedia tutorial as a training tool for instructive use of the Nook Color e-reader. If sample means is below 3, it will reflect a negative response to using multimedia.

• The interview analysis will be presented in narrative form to present the findings on the effectiveness of the use of the multimedia tutorial as a training tool for using the Nook Color e-reader. If it is not, what could I possible do to improve its effectiveness or revise it?

My portfolio serves as visual and skillful evidence of my journey through the field of Texas A&M ‘s M. S. Program in Instructional Technology.

At first it was a challenging crawl, learning new vocabulary and formats, which later strengthened me to stand and tentatively collaborate with my peers. The communal effect powered me to confidently walk into the field and begin to contribute. My pace is now a trot on the cusp of a marathon.

If I would have had the opportunity to implement my project, I would have been better able to adjust my design if needed based on formative assessments from my trainees. Formative assessments would have provided for more productive summative assessments, which in turn means a beneficial design.

I am supremely confident that I have gained practical competent in the my field because I have gone on a job interview for a position as an

Instructional Designer for a state agency. Although I did not get the position the questions that I was asked appeared to have come directly from the knowledge that I gained from this program. I was able for example: the benefits of online training verses face to face, examples of online assessments that I would use. I contacted the interviewers after not getting the position and was told that I was one of their top 3 choices out of 9, and that ultimately they hired “in-house” I was also told that they were impressed with my knowledge and confidence, and would keep me in mind for future openings. That experience gave me the assurance that I chose the right program.
