Definition Of Tenses

A verb form that indicates, or can indicate,

a relationship between the time the action in

a verb occurs and the time the verb is

uttered. A verb tense can also give an

indication of the duration of the verb's action

and when or if it is completed.

Simple Present

N e x t

Use the Simple Present to express the idea that an action is repeated or usual. The action can be a habit, a hobby, a daily event, a scheduled event or something that often happens. It can also be something a person often forgets or usually does not do.

adverb of time which is commonly used in the simple present tense : every day, every week, every year,on Mondays, after school, etc.

Simple Future

stating the events that will occur In American English, all subjects

will use. Shall not be used in the Simple Future Tense.

In British English. Will be used for all subjects, but Shall only be used for I and we just.

Simple Future Tense is divided into two forms, namely "Will / shall" and "going to" but have different uses.

"Going to" is used to express an action plan which has been made much before speaking

"Will" is used to express an action plan that you just think / have not planned / spontaneity when speaking

adverb of time which is commonly used in the simple future tense : tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, next, tonight, etc.

Past Continuous

Use the Past Continuous to indicate that a longer action in the past was interrupted. The interruption is usually a shorter action in the Simple Past. Remember this can be a real interruption or just an interruption in time.

Future Continuous

N e x t

Future Continuous has two different forms: "will be" and "going to”. Unlike Simple Future forms, Future Continuous forms are usually interchangeable. Use the Future Continuous to indicate that a longer action in the future will be interrupted by a shorter action in the future. We use the Present Perfect to say that an action happened at an unspecified time before now. The exact time is not important. You CANNOT use the Present Perfect with specific time expressions such as: yesterday, one year ago, last week, when I was a child, when I lived in Japan, at that moment, that day, one day, etc
