-Figurative meaning aren’t literal meaning. They have imaginative meanings.-Compare these sentences.

I saw a shark in Sea World. (literal meaning)That salesman was a shark. (figurative meaning)

Grammar Focus : Simple Present and Continous Tense

Some verb indicate actions

or activities. For

example : run,

swim, go, write,

and smile. These

are action verbs.

They can take

both simple and

continous forms.

Look the following example.- She usually

goes to school by

bicycle but today

she is going to

school on foot.

Some verbs do not indicate actions but state. Some examples are :

be, know, understand, and have. They are called state verbs. These verbs do not take continuous

form.- I like black coffee. (not : I am liking black coffee)

Shanti is a radio presenter. She has a very tight schedule.

Identification

She gets up at 5 and she has rice and boiled egg for breakfast. At 6 she leaves home for school. After school, she works. She presents School Profile program in EOS. She works for two hours. After work she plays games or chats on the internet. Surfing on the internet and playing games are her hobbies. In the evening, she studies. She goes to bed at 9.30 p.m.

Camping

Camping is a hobby of people of different ages. They usually go

camping on weekends or holidays. They live outside their house for

one or more days. They bring food, clothes and other daily needs with

them. They often bring some cooking untensils and cook their

own food. They spend several days, or even weeks in a tent. They do a

lot of activities, like fishing, swimming, watching birds and wildlife, and playing games.

Adverb of frequencyAn adverb of frequency indicates the frequency of an event or activity. It answer the question “How often...?”

E.g : Always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, seldom, never.Adverb of frequency can also be in the form of phrases (e.g : three times a day, once a week). They are placed at the end of a sentence.E.g : He comes here twice a week.
