A future PLP Government will embark on radical education reform which:- has rigor, provides the requisite foundation/skills, is responsive – workforce/marketplace, is competitive, harnesses natural talents and interests promotes individual success

1. Increasing alignment structurally a. horizontally – standardised assessment
system wide b. vertically – phasing out of middle schools.c. school autonomyd. streamlining bureaucracy

2. Cessation of social promotion at all levelsa. advancement based on meritb. assessment tools based on students
overall class work and examsc. assessment aligned with students
learning styles

3. Development of signature schools at the senior levela. Academicb. Technologicalc. Artsd. Businesse. Sportsf. Special Needs School

4. Specialised programmes for students:-a. ‘Learning Support’b. ‘Gifted and Talented’c. Audio/Visually challenged etc.d. Apprenticeship programmes
– NEC, NFP, BOMI, Auto/Mechanics/bodywork

5. Encouraging and facilitating the opportunity to engage in internationally recognised exams: SAT; IGCSE; CAMBRIDGE: CXC; IB; CITY & GUILD, etc.We will retain our local BSR

6. Providing college programmes that are responsive to the local workforce needs a. Display direct alignment with high school
programmes /coursesb. Four year degree programmes – Education,
Nursing, Accounting/Business, c. Development of Research Centre for those
pursuing Master and Doctorate

7. Community supporta. Use industry members as local lecturers b. Encourage private sector institutions to
provide apprenticeship programmes
What our plan will not support :- Return to stanines with mandatory placement to specific schools.
Required attendance at neighbourhood high schools
Mastery assessment based on a single exam performance
Inhibiting mobility of teachers /principals
