Issues with previous work…

Not enough research

• On the whole, research was far too basic and minimal

• You should be aiming for a minimum of 4 different sources.

• 4 websites on their own is not ok. That only counts as 1 source

• You should be making sure that you evaluate each of the sources you use.

Design Brief too basic

• The design brief needs to be thoughtful and detailed. One sentence answers to cover the points are not enough.

• Often things were left out. If I ask you to include a particular piece of information, it is for a reason – to ensure you get a high grade.

• You must identify the unit problem and the task you have been given.

• You must discuss how the Unit Question relates to you, to society and how it is relevant to the Area of Interaction – in detail.

Design Specification too basic or incomplete

• You should have a detailed list of Limits, Demands and Wishes. These should relate to how the product will end up– for example “the product must not be longer than 5

minutes” would be a Limit, because you are limiting yourself.– “It must be longer than 2 minutes” would be a Demand,

because it is something that must happen.– “It should contain a moral message” would be a Wish,

because it isn’t necessary but could be useful.• Structure it with bullet points preferably as it is much

easier to understand when I mark it.

Today’s Tasks

1. As we did last time, you need to create your index file, where you will save all your work.

2. Once we have done this, we need to begin the Investigation stage.

Investigation Stage

• You need to follow the guide I gave you last time

• You need to refer to the detail given on the tick box checklist.– If you follow this checklist in detail and do exactly

what it says, you will get a very high level.– Last time a lot of people missed huge amounts out

and this resulted in low marks.

Checklist

• To make this as easy as possible, I would like you to lay out your work with clear headings, relating to the content of the checklist.

• For example, if it asks you to identify the Problem, you should create a heading stating ‘Identifying the Problem’.

• If it asks if you have included guiding questions, then create a heading stating ‘Guiding Questions’.

• This will make it very easy to understand and to keep track of, to make sure you tick all the boxes.

Beginning the Investigation• Take a look at the checklist and begin working through the

first section:*I have described the problem as I understood it.*I have written an explanation on why the problem is important, relating it to my life.*I have written an explanation on why the problem is important, relating it to society.*I have written how and why solving this problem is relevant to the A.O.I.’s?*I have written down and discussed appropriate questions (at least 4) that will guide my investigation
