What is Heat Island Phenomenon (H.I.P.)

• Last 100 years, average temperature on the earth raised 0.74 .℃

• In the temperature chart, urban areas looks like island.

• In Japan, within last 100 years,

temperature raised

3 in Tokyo, ℃2.6 in Nagoya, ℃2.3 in Sapporo.℃

Nagoya↑2.6℃

Sapporo↑2.3℃

Looks like an island!!

• Compare the temperature in Tokyo between 1981 and 1999.

Cause of Heat Island Phenomenon ① Green land ↓ and heat stays on the ground. ↑ ② asphalt and concrete, so heat does not go out. ③ Human activities, such as cars, air conditioner,

electric machines emit heat. Heat Island

H.I.P. and the City Type Disaster 1

• Hay fever (especially on September)

⇒ Pollen spread when warm enough.

⇒ Difficult to absorb pollen in asphalt.

How to cool down our city?

• Green roof, Green wall, Green curtain, and Box Gardening

• Adjust temperature of air-conditioner

• Cool Biz, Warm Biz

• Spread water (Uchi-mizu: Hit water)

Page 11: Heat island phenomenon

Case Study in Japan: Green Roof (Okujo Ryokuka:屋上緑化 )

• Cool down temperature.

• Stress free and get more customer.

• Able to get subvention from government.

• Cultivation and garbage compost at green roof.

Conclusion

• Heat Island phenomenon is negative heritage of our development.

• H.I.P. will be cause some disaster.

• To stop H.I.P., we can practice one by one, and its not so difficult.
