DESCRIPTION

In commemoration of CERIC’s 10th anniversary, past CERIC Board and Committee members shared the impact that CERIC has had in the past 10 years on the field of career development and their hopes for the future. Their messages were captured in a presentation that played during Cannexus. With the start of 2014, CERIC is marking 10 years as a national charitable organization, advancing education and research in the field of career development in Canada. A full calendar of special events is planned to celebrate this anniversary milestone beginning with the Cannexus14 National Career Development Conference in January. Just some of the exciting initiatives taking place during Cannexus include: - Launch of CERIC’s new textbook Career Development Practice in Canada: Perspectives, Principles, and Professionalism - Release of the CERIC-commissioned Environics Research findings on Career Development in the Canadian Workplace: National Business Survey - Recognition for the winners of CERIC’s online competition, the National Challenge to Promote Career Development in Canada

I am so happy to have been involved on the Board of CERIC. It helped me a lot to learn and show in Quebec what was going on in the field of career counselling outside Quebec. I was happy to facilitate exchanges of information and experiences with other parts of the country about the nice things that we were doing in that field in Quebec. But, overall, the most important memories of that period in my life are the marvelous people that I had the opportunity to work with.

Je suis tellement content d’avoir été membre du conseil d’administration du CERIC. J’y ai beaucoup appris et j’ai pu faire connaître chez nous ce qui se passait hors Québec dans le domaine de l’orientation professionnelle. J’ai aussi été ravi de faciliter le partage d’information et d’expériences propres au Québec avec des intervenants d’autres régions du pays. Ce dont je garde le souvenir le plus marquant quand je repense à cette période de ma vie, ce sont les gens extraordinaires avec qui j’ai eu le privilège de collaborer et de partager des expériences.

My father talked about the need for an institute for career counsellors as far back as the early 1960s. I think if he were to come back to life now and see what we’ve created in CERIC, he would be both amazed and proud at what has been accomplished. Personally, I think the creation of CERIC is one of the biggest accomplishments of the Foundation during my tenure as Chair of the Board.

Déjà au début des années 1960, mon père parlait de la nécessité de fonder un institut pour les conseillers d’orientation. Pour ma part, j’estime que la création du CERIC fait partie des plus grandes réalisations de la fondation pendant les années où j’ai été président de son conseil.

One of the most inspiring aspects of my volunteer work with CERIC was the emphasis on practical research, encouraging community-based career development projects to participate (in the growing knowledge base of career information and innovation in Canada).

Even before CERIC was created, I knew of the excellent work that The Counselling Foundation of Canada did through its conferences and the ContactPoint website. With CERIC, the contributions made to the career counselling/development fields in Canada have expanded exponentially, benefiting so many individuals and communities across the country. During my involvement with CERIC, I have seen the organization become a national 'force' on the career development landscape coast to coast through the vision, leadership, and resourcefulness of the board, staff, and volunteers. What excites me about the next 10 years? The focus on continuing to raise awareness through collaborative research, education initiatives, and multi-sectoral partnerships to ensure that career development is top of mind in the country. Lors de mon passage au CERIC, j’ai vu l’organisme devenir une "force" nationale en développement de carrière grâce à la vision, au leadership et à l’ingéniosité de son conseil, de son effectif et de ses bénévoles. Ce qui m’emballe quand je pense aux 10 prochaines années? La focalisation sur l’information des citoyens grâce à la recherche collaborative, aux initiatives éducatives et aux partenariats multisectoriels qui feront en sorte que le développement de carrière soit au cœur des préoccupations à l’échelle du pays. It’s marvelous to see how CERIC - and its strong committed team - have evolved and expanded over the past 10 years. CERIC’s support of research and education has enabled the field of career counselling and development to mature. This is clearly evident with the increase in the breadth and depth of programs and services offered to young children, youth, adults and career practitioners.
