Dear Parents, Our Year 4 adventurers had lots of fun, out and about on their 3 day trip to Long Hai this week. I was lucky enough to spend all day with our explorers on Tuesday. The day started early with a morning trip to the beach; this is where the children’s skills in design and architecture shone through as they all took part in the sandcastle building competition. Amazing designs were seen with many castle features such as moats and battlements. After a leisurely lunch, the problem solving challenge began. Teams were given the task of making a ‘marble run’ out of cardboard, pipe cleaners and straws.

Perseverance was needed as the children tried to make the marble reach the end in the longest possible time. I left the children after a session in the hotel swimming pool. What an excellent way to end the day! Thank you to Ms Tam, Ms Van Anh, Ms Emma and Mr Mike for their superb organisation and congratulations to our Year 4 explorers for their exemplary behaviour and sense of adventure. Congratulations also go to our four mathematicians who represented the TX Campus in the recent Fobisia Maths Competition in China. Yu Geong, Shao Fu, Andrew and Jeanette came back victorious after coming 4

th out of 31 international schools. This is a super achievement - Well done to our gifted

mathematicians and Mr Rob! Parent and Teacher Meetings Next Thursday we have parent and teacher meetings here at the TX Campus. Please sign up for a time slot to meet with your child’s teachers. The sign-up sheets are displayed in the foyer. Security at TX In the light of our child protection audit and staff training which was held last week, I would like to remind

you all about our security procedures. All parents should carry their child’s security card with them and

present the card when asked at the school gate. Any parent who does not have their security card will be

asked to sign in and wear a visitor’s badge. Visitors entering school during the school day will be escorted

to the office for assistance.

From the Head Teacher– Ms Sue Hill

Maths Fobisia 2015

Last week, four very talented mathematicians set off from TX to take part in the annual Primary Maths Fobisia competition, hosted by BIS Puxi Shanghai. This year 31 schools and 128 children took competed. The competition kicked off with a maths trail at a local park, where Jeanette, Yu Gyeong, Andrew and Shao Fu were mixed with others from different schools to complete a series of questions and solve problems about their surroundings. In the afternoon, it was down to business, as the children sat down to four grueling individual papers that tested their mathematical abilities greatly. After a very busy first day, the teams were treated to a pizza feast, before heading in to downtown Shanghai for a cruise on the river to see the bright lights of the city.

The next day brought about the team challenges, where the children worked together to complete a written, logic and spatial test. After lunch they competed in a split relay before the construction challenge. This year’s task was to create a land vehicle that would be propelled by the power of two large fans, points were awarded for how far the teams vehicle travelled. Team work and co-operative skills were vital in this challenge and our children did us very proud. After the final scores were totaled up, each school gathered to claim their participation medals and hear the final results. I am delighted to announce that TX finished an incredible fourth in the competition, which from a small campus is an amazing achievement. Individually, our children were also very strong. Shao Fu finished an incredible 28th out of 128, which for a Year

5 child competing against older children is a wonderful achievement. I am extremely proud of each of the children involved; they worked wonderfully as a team and their dedication and responsible attitude was a credit to our school. Mr Rob

Year 4’s Long Hai trip

On Monday morning, the Year 4 children arrived at school wearing their sunshine yellow trip t-shirts, all packed and ready to head to Long Hai for their residential trip. There were some worried faces as we jumped onto the bus, but most of these belonged to the nervous parents waving off their little ones. We had an action packed few days at the beach. Not only did the children get to play, explore and have fun but they also learnt many vital life skills. Both Mr Mike and myself were really impressed by how much the children learned in such a short time, such as organisational, communication and interpersonal skills. Moreover, the children in Year 4 were polite, helpful and respectful to all staff members including Ms Van Anh and Ms Tam who joined us on the trip. In fact we would like to say a huge thank you to our Teaching Assistants for their tireless hard work and enthusiasm during the trip. We returned to TX on Wednesday afternoon, with happy hearts. Everyone had enjoyed the trip, but were very happy to see their parents again. I think all the children on the trip learnt new skills and became a little more independent and mature during their time at Long Hai. Today we had a celebration assembly to share our experiences with the rest of the school and parents. We gave out special awards for sandcastle building to Benz, Daniel and Justin. The tidiest room awards went to Bin and Bennie and Soo A, Yun Seo and Minh Anh. We also awarded children who showed out-standing attributes which reflected our Masters of Learning animals. In 4X Ken won the award for caring, Tri won the award for integrity, Tu Tu for reflection and Mina for her perseverance. In 4T Daniel won the award for enquiry, Nghia won the award for respect, Yui for being a global citizen and David won the learning together award. We would like to congratulate all the children in Year 4 for their positivity and perseverance on the Long Hai trip. Ms Emma Year 4 Teacher and MP2 Leader.

U11 Boys Football On Wednesday 11th March the U11 Boys Football team played against TAS. The team consisted of; Chi Nhan Phan, Pana Duong, Gia Vinh Le Nguyen, Tyler Nguyen, Anh Khoi Ngo Pham, Bao Tran, Vi Tri Khuu, Anh Vu Dang. From the onset of the game the TX squad fought for every ball and Chi Nhan and Anh Khoi made some superb interceptions. Gia Vinh and Tyler worked well supporting each other up and down the area. Vi Tri in the second half continually pressured the TAS goal keeper. The overall score was 8-1 to TX at the end of the match. The effort and hard work of the students is paying off. The player of the match goes to Chi Nhan for working up and down supporting both attacking and defending play. Well done boys keep up the good work! Ms Charlotte
