Why Barnoparichay?Bengali is 7th most spoken language in the world, one of the primary vernacular languages in India and 2nd most spoken language in the country after Hindi.

With an aim to spread Bengali language further, Barnoparichay was launched in March 2015.

Barnoparichay:

● Help kids learn Bengali alphabet and numerals using interactive tools and teaching methods.

● Reach out to the Bengali community located in different continents where readable content is available only through smartphones and tablets.

Barnoparichay is also found in Hindi and English.

The Challenges● The toughest task for the designer was to keep the interface very engaging, to draw attention of first time users.

● Implement authentic, old school slate and chalk effect to create a nostalgic impact.

● Generate a smooth interface and an erasable duster element, making the user experience as realistic as possible.

● Adding various key tools to make the app more engaging

● Memory Management was a huge blocker as managing images in the app could slow it down.

The Solution● Engaging for children with cartoon kids, making the app

colorful and alluring.

● The age of boring buttons is over. The app has colourful

characters who define button functionality by displaying

specific actions.

● A blend of functionality for wiping of “slate-board”.

● Core graphics(GPU for processing, utilising the OpenGL ES

2.0 Framework)to increase performance and smoothness,.

● Various colored chalks of different size and patterns.

● “Listen and choose the correct alphabet” challenge to increase

concentration skills.

● There is also a challenge for arranging jumbled alphabets in

sequential order to test patience and memory.

4 different modes of bengali learning● Lekhani lets kids draw and learn Bengali alphabets/ numbers by implementing the slate and chalk interface.

● Chhara lets kids learn Bengali rhymes by listening to voice recitation clips.

● Shrutipathan teaches kids how to select the correct letter/ number from multiple options by listening to voice clips.

● Ha-Ja-Ba-Ra-La is a game for kids to arrange jumbled alphabets/ numbers in the correct sequence.

Advantages

● Introduces kids to classification based on Swarabarna (vowels), Byanjanbarna (consonants), Maatras (word extensions) and Sankhya (numerals).

● Touch based Pen tool lets kids practice drawing and outlining Bengali alphabets/ numbers.

● Simplistic and colorful interface glorifying the Bengali language spoken majorly in several Indian states including West Bengal and Assam, and also in the country of Bangladesh.
