• There are fifteen students in the room, and all of these learners have some areas of concern. The students’ files, for example, are in a mess and the learners do not know what piece of paperwork to put where! Further to this, one learner’s portfolio got thrown out of the window and two students’ rucksacks were put in the skip outside the canteen.

• If students are going to act like this we are going to need to make sure there are some ground rules in place for all learners to follow. It may be an idea to set up a students’ charter in discussion with learners and ask them to police this themselves. This will give learners the opportunity to be treated as adults – hopefully as a result they will act like adults and learners’ issues with portfolio completion and missing pencil cases will vanish.
