This establishing shot is used to set the scene to the audience, that the characters live in a

big busy city. A grey colour (sky, city) can connotate a sense of danger to the audience. The non digetic sound in the background also links to the theme of danger linking well with

the colours.

This establishing shot also is used to set the scene to the audience however it sets it

further by adding a proper location, and also connotating to the audience about what type of life the characters have as they live in the city, or have something to do with the city.

This shot of the hotel (home) is used to give a further understanding of the type of place the characters live in as it is zooming in. The kind of

rough looking block connotates to the audience that the character may not be

wealthy and could maybe make the audience think about (stereotype) the characters to as what they will be like due the where they are, which could be rough and can connotate that

danger may be involved in the film.

This shot is used to build the characters up for the audience. This shot shows that the

characters are in a relationship presenting them as having normal lives. The colours in the room however are dull which you connotate to

the audience that the characters could be dangerous later on in the film. The soundtrack in the background also links with the idea of

danger.

he may be in danger or is a dangerous man, which is character building to the audience.

normal life and builds a character profile for the audience.

tension for the audience.

This long shot of the girl dancing is used to build the character for the audience, as it shows she likes to dance. The dark colours

connotate danger as black is associated with danger. The spotlight also connotates a a sense of danger as she is the only one in the shot and the spotlight meaning that she could be alone

and a lonely person in the rest of the film.

This shot of the girl dancing shows that she is skilled and further builds the character to

them. The colours again can connotate a sense of danger. The shadow of her feet is also

thrilling as shadows tend to be seen as scary.

can therefore show the audience that the character may be innocent and pure.

spotlight again. The shot is used to show the audience the character to further build.

character is introduced to the audience. This shot can connotate that she is in danger as she is put under a spotlight with her back turned to

him and he is walking towards her. He is also out of focus blending into the dark background

which can again connotate danger to the audience.

This mid shot of the character shows the feathers falling off of her costume. This could connotate to the audience that her purity is leaving her (loosing it) as they are falling off. This therefore builds the characters profile

even more.

This first shot tells the audience where the scene is set so they have a better

understanding of how the film could go. Again black suggests danger.

as the grey colours connotate this. Also it shows that the weather is foggy which

sometimes also links to a sense of danger.

he has on him. His facial expressions show that he feels uncomfortable on the boat, and the

gun that is in his trousers immediately tells the audience that there are risks and that danger

may occur.

detectives (because of the outfits they are wearing). This therefore tells the audience that something dangerous has happened and builds tension for them, as the detectives are clearly

flashback. This shows that he is a normal person with a similar life to everyone else. This

builds the character to the audience and suggest that he is going to be the protagonist
