The X is a music festival held annually in Germany at which performances of operas by he 19th century German composer Y are presented.
Y himself conceived and promoted the idea of a special festival to showcase his own works
Performances take place in a specially designed theatre. Y personally supervised the design and construction of the theatre, which containedmany architectural innovations to accommodate the huge orchestras for whichY wrote as well as the composer's particular vision about the staging of his works.
During the war, the festival was turned over to the Nazi Party, which continued to sponsor operas for wounded soldiers returning from the front. These soldiers were forced to attend lectures onY before the performances, and most found the festival to be tedious. However, as “guests of the Führer”, none complained.

X was a form of execution that allegedly occurred in Nantes during the Reign of Terror in Revolutionary France and "involved tying a naked man and woman together and drowning them".
The use of the term appears to be a mockery of the concept of X as an actual "secular" marriage. Books describe parents horrified tolearn that their children planned a X instead of being married in a church.

X was a Jewish Greek boxer, the Middleweight Champion of Greece (1938) and the All-Balkans Middleweight Champion (1939), who survived the Holocaust by boxing for the entertainment of Nazi officers in Auschwitz Concentration Camp. According to X, he was undefeated at Auschwitz, though two matches he was forced to fight while recovering from dysentery ended in draws. Lodged with the other fighters forced to participate in these matches and paid in extra food or lighter work, X fought 208 matches at his estimation, knowing that prisoners who lost would be sent to the gas chamber orshot. Fights generally lasted until one fighter went down or the Nazis got tired of watching. His story was portrayed in the 1989 film Triumph of theSpirit.

The word X is drawn from the French language. In printing, X was the sound a printing plate cast from movable type made when it was used.
When letters were set one at a time, it made sense to cast a phrase used repeatedly, as a single slug of metal.

Ray Bradbury wrote a 25,000-word novella entitled X which he later expanded into this 50,000-word novel. He decided to give the novel a new title and, focusing on book burning, came up with the idea of using the temperature at which book paper burns. He called the physics and chemistry departments at several universities, but no one could pinpoint this temperature. Then, wondering why he hadn’t thought of it first, he called the local fire station. The fire chief named the temperature, and Ray Bradbury had his title: Fahrenheit 451.
