At this time I would like to thank the board of directors of the Chatham-Kent Children’s Safety Village for their timeless efforts, profound wisdom and expertise. But mostly I would like to share our deepest appreciation for all of the hard work and responsibility that the board of directors of the Chatham-Kent Children’s Safety Village holds.

Each one of our dedicated and passionate board of directors has contributed to a safer community, state of the art facility and programming that are unmatched anywhere regarding child injury prevention. They have each contributed to saving lives in Chatham-Kent and making a change in our community, while setting monumental examples for others around the world.

These are the unsung heroes of the community.

I would also like to thank the partners of the Chatham-Kent Children’s Safety Village. These partnerships have proven to be invaluable to the strengths that make a difference in how lives can be saved, changing the way we thought, and improving the quality of life for children in our communities.

Servicing Chatham-Kent

Here is a snapshot of the heights your gifts have helped us to achieve in

the past year.

The Chatham-Kent Children’s Safety Village offers programs during a 6 week semester with a cap of 20 (max) per classroom,

training and educating a total of 60 students per day.

Programs are created for grades 1, 4 & 6. These programs are designed, monitored and maintained by a program committee,

board of directors (consisting of local emergency service representatives) and boards of education.

Therefore in 2012/2013 year, enrolment at CKCSV decreased by 388 students. *decrease is due to decreasing enrolment in school boards, resulting in closure of

schools.

Note: Due to policy & procedure and because the CKCSV is a charity, we are not permitted to contact schools directly.

Check out our Sparky, Elmer & Andy Safety Awards where we acknowledge the brave & courageous youth of Chatham-Kent. Acts of heroism and good citizenship are recognized and awarded. Children in Elementary and High School that reside in Chatham-Kent are eligible for nominations.

Nominate children who have assisted their classmates, parents or friends & performed at a level that is beyond expectations, while contributing to a safer community.Winners of the safety awards will receive a Sparky, Elmer & Andy Award & a certificate recognizing their heroism.

“Hi my name is Lauren Fuoco. I am an 11 year old girl who attends Gregory Drive Public School. I have also

attended many safety village work shops.

Yesterday, while eating at a restaurant I began choking on a piece of steak.  At first, I started to panic, because

I could not breathe and the piece of steak would not come out.  I signalled to my parents that something was

wrong and my mom yelled to my dad that I was choking. 

He immediately stood up to come to my side of the table, however before he got to me, I remembered a

lesson on what to do when choking.  I stopped panicking and calmly inhaled through my nose and

coughed hard and the piece of meat went flying in my drinking glass.  I was a little shook up and started crying

and someone made a comment that I had gotten 2 points for getting the meat into the glass.  We all

started laughing. 

When my parents asked what I did, I told them that I remembered learning this from the Safety Village.

So I would like to thank-you and the many volunteers for your work and effort to teach kids like me how to

save their own lives.”

In order to save a child the Chatham-Kent Children’s Safety Village needs these funds to be

operational.

The funds raised will be used for the grade 4 bicycle safety program, taught by Chatham-Kent Police

Service every Spring at the Children’s Safety Village.

A 7 km memorial walk and fundraiser held in October raises funds

annually for the Chatham-Kent

Children’s Safety Village.

Organized by Rod Wellington and sister Carrie Formosa, this walk remembers 14

year old Jesse Nealey, a Blenheim youth who

died after being struck by a vehicle on September 9th while

riding his bicycle.

Over 80 participants take part in the walk,

including many of Jesse’s family and

friends.  

IN THE VILLAGE

We had a great turnout at this year’s Safe Treating Day! With crowds

surpassing upwards of 400 people, yearly, kids flock to our safe

alternative to Trick Or Treating day with community partnerships and

activities for all.

Approximately 100 runners took part in our 2012, 1st Annual Father’s Day Classic.

We also had several kids take part in our 100m dash with prizes including freezies, participant ribbons and teddy bears. It was a great first go at the event, bringing on

successes in the years to come, continuing with this event in partnership with Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers.
