Shutter IslandQuick editing cut to the spiralling staircase.

Adds an element of illusion to confuse the audience.

The text is very sinister looking which connotes danger,

Connecting to the theme of a psychological thriller

The whole scene of this screenshot is very dark which could foreshadow later events in the film.

The cinematography in this shot is high angle, this makes the person watching it feel anxious as it looks like a long drop from the top.

Momento Close up of an image that the killer just took.

Simple text suggests normality to the film, which causes a juxtaposition.

The amount of destruction caused to the victim also goes against the simple text

The hand here, holding the picture holds a mystery because we don’t know who it is. This leads the audience to carry on watching.

The cinematography of this shot is that it is close up. This suggests that the audience should pay attention to this because it may mean something later in the film.

Insomnia

Both link together because the blood is seeping through the carpet and in the second screen looks as if ink is seeping in and leaving a trace behind.

The blood makes it more sinister as blood is a sign of death.

The cinematography of this shot is a close up. Many people wouldn’t realise this, but it is blood seeping slowly through the carpet. It seems as this is underneath the carpet and not being dropped on, adding more mystery to the shot.

Both texts look as if it is the same typeface. The title ‘Insomnia’ is very spaced apart too.

Dawn of the Dead

The red text here is very daring and the text is big and bold, suggesting that this is going to be something dangerous.

The blowing away of the text could connote the blowing away of spilt blood, suggesting this is a thriller-horror genre.

The background is black and this makes the text really stand out.

Black Swan

Simple, yet sophisticated text makes it stand out more against the white background

It looks like there has been a lot of pressure been added to put the charcoal on the canvas.

You can see the amount of pressure been added by how small the piece of charcoal is.

The pressure of the charcoal continues to show as there is debris from the charcoal spread out on the page.

The cinematography in this shot is the extreme close up of the charcoal drawing and the object itself. It could have a hidden meaning.

The black charcoal piece, could link to the title of ‘Black Swan’

SkyfallPurple/Blue undertones add an eerie effect and make it more dark.

The background for this is shown as the chapel from the scenes of the actual movie, so this is also foreshadowing what could happen in the film.

The sinking hole could connote that James Bond is being put through something tough again.

The typeface is very simple, yet effective.

Both shots are basically establishing shots because it is setting the scene on where it is taking place because the opening scene goes through a loop.

Elysium

Simple, spread out typeface. I would see this text definitely fits in with the way the opening scene has been presented. I find that this text is very modern.

Establishing shot is shown here to set the scene. It is very desolate, this is showing us the thriller genre to this opening scene

Fast And Furious 6

The typeface for this opening scene looks very powerful and this connotes how powerful the cars are. It is in block silver metal letters which reinforces how powerful the titling is.

The change between the two scenes is very quick, and therefore this goes along with how fast the vehicle is.

The cinematography is very fast pace and shoots at various shot types – establishing and medium shots. It varies because of the amount of movement.

The Guest

Medium shot of a person from behind. This adds a sense of mystery to the opening scene.

The shot looks kind of tinted. It is a darker tint, adding a sense of fear because you don’t know this person and its a bit darker than usual.

The simple yet bold typeface really catches your eye. Because the blue is on a black background it is easier to see.

The cinematography in this scene is very simple yet powerful to send out a message about the character. Could he be lost? Or is he homeless? It sends out lots of questions, this suggests that the shot is very vague.
