Clarity of speech

• Clarity of speech refers to how precisely speech sounds are made.

• Some people have slurred speech in which different speech sounds run together and are not fully sounded.

• This makes it difficult for the listener to pick out the words.• However, some precise speakers can speak very quickly and

still be very well understood.

Volume or loudness is important

A quiet voice is much harder to follow but a very loud voice can be tiresome and irritating to listen for a long time

Pitch of voice

• Pitch refers to how high or low the voice is on a musical scale

• Young children hear high-pitched sounds better than low-pitched sounds

• Some older people have difficulty in hearing high-pitched sounds and find it easier to hear mid ranged voices

Tone of voice

• Tone can vary from – Mellow voice to a high edged, quite piercing voice.
