Can I understand the difference between a plural and possessive apostrophe?
Plurals
Plural nouns are when there is more than one. An 's' can be added to the end of most nouns
to indicate this. For example: car = cars.
However, some plural nouns can be difficult to spell. There are rules that can help you
remember how to spell plural nouns. For example nouns ending in a 'y' are made plural by
adding 'ies' to the end. (city = cities)
Remember that adding an apostrophe ‘s’ does not make a plural noun. For example:
‘We saw lots of bird’s in the garden’ - is incorrect
‘We saw lots of birds in the garden’ - is correct
Possessive Apostrophe
An apostrophe can be used to show that one thing belongs to or is connected to something.
This is called a possessive apostrophe.
Let's take a look at some examples:
• The cat's tail was fluffy.
Cat is a singular noun so you need to add an apostrophe and "s" to show that the tail belongs
to the cat.
• Charles' cat was naughty.
Charles is a singular noun that ends in an "s", so you need to add an apostrophe to show that
the cat belongs to Charles.
• The brothers' feet were muddy.
Brothers is a plural noun that ends in an "s" so you don't add another "s" after your
apostrophe. You can just add an apostrophe to show the feet belongs to the brothers.
• The children's toys were broken
Children is a plural noun but it doesn't end with an "s" so you need to add an apostrophe and
"s" to show that the toys belong to the children.

their own pace.

Task: Work out the number sequences to grow the snake. Use the left, right, up
and down keys to direct the snake towards the next number in the sequence.
There are 3 levels of challenge so choose the one which suits you best.
E.g. This number sequence is going up in 2s so the next number must be 16, as it
is 2 more than 14.
Be careful! If your snake hits a wrong number than does not fit the sequence
then you will lose points!

The Palm Island
What is Palm Island?
The Palm Island is a man-made island,
in the shape of a palm tree, on the
coast of Dubai in the UAE.
Why Build an Island?
The ruler of Dubai wanted to make
more coastline for visitors to the UAE,
so they made an island in the sea.
Protecting the Island
The island was to be made from sand and rocks. Sand could easily be washed
away by bad weather so they needed a breakwater. A breakwater was a pile of
sand, rubble and rock built high around the island. It protects the island from
storms, the sea and waves.
Building the Island
Next, they built the island. It was made from sand and rock so that it did not
harm the animals and sea creatures around. The island was 5.5km long. Many
fish and other sea creatures began to live in the breakwater rocks, so it helped
the environment.

Can I create a piece of artwork inspired by Hokusai’s The Great Wave?
The ocean is a fascinating place and artists have been inspired by the sea for
centuries! You can find spectacular examples created by artists around the
world.
Katsushika Hokusai was a Japanese artist during the Edo period, and he was
quite a character. He created a particular piece of artwork called The Great
Wave.
It is a woodblock print because he carved the image into wood, and made colour
prints from the impression.
Task: To recreate the artwork
You can use any media of your choice (oil pastels,
chalk/charcoal, colouring pencils, paints, water colours
etc)
