MBA EXPERIENTIAL COMPONENT

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS AND EXPERIENTIAL PROGRAMSLASSONDE NEW VENTURE DEVELOPMENT CENTER

The Lassonde New Venture Development Center associates evaluate

and develop business opportunities for the cutting-edge technologies

developed by University of Utah researchers. The center is comprised

of graduate students, selected through a competitive process, from

engineering, science, and business, who work through the school year

on early-stage business development, market analysis, and strategies

to write business plans.

SORENSON CENTER FOR DISCOVERY AND INNOVATION

At the Sorenson Center, students take courses in innovation and

“play in the Sorenson sandbox,” learning how to ideate, invent, and

apply design thinking to solving problems. Through four unique

innovation labs, students develop creativity in thinking about the next

technology paradigm: the Internet of Things. The center offers both

extracurricular programs and for-credit opportunities for MBAs.

SORENSON GLOBAL IMPACT INVESTING CENTER

The SGII Center partners with leading social investment firms, impact

investors, social entrepreneurs, innovative nonprofit organizations,

and foundations to identify, assist, and fund social enterprises with

significant potential.

UNIVERSITY VENTURE FUND

Founded in 2001 at the University of Utah, the University Venture

Fund (UVF) is the largest student-run private equity fund in the United

States. The fund is a collaborative effort among students, universities,

and the professional investment community. The students raise

capital, perform due diligence on venture capital opportunities, and

make investments. In addition to being the largest fund of its kind, UVF

is the first fund for which students raise all the capital, and it is the first

student-run fund that has a traditional limited-partner relationship

with its investors.

Application DEADLINES

APPLICATION PROCESSTuition for residents is estimated at $51,000. Tuition for non-residents is estimated at $95,000.

On average, 80% of our students receive merit-based aid. All admitted students are considered for this award; no separate application is necessary. Awards

are given based on demonstrated excellence in academic or professional pursuits. Notification of merit-based financial aid is included with the admission

decision. Scholarship award amounts depend on the competitiveness of the admitted applicant pool, and range from $5,000 to $40,000 in total value.

• On average, 75% of each admitted class has been offered at least a 15% tuition reduction

• On average, 25% of each admitted class has been offered a 75% or more tuition reduction

assistance to help cover travel and registration costs

While we try to provide some level of assistance to the majority of our MBA students, more competitive awards are typically given to applicants meeting the

following measures of excellence:

• Average profile of 50% tuition reduction scholarship recipient: 630 GMAT, 3.4 GPA, 24 months of post-graduate work experience

• Average profile of 75% or more tuition reduction scholarship recipient: 680 GMAT, 3.5 GPA, 34 months of post-graduate work experience

MBA students who maintain the prescribed credit hour load are considered full-time graduate students and qualify for federal financial aid throughout the

length of the program. Loan programs of particular interest to graduate students are the Perkins Loan, Direct Unsubsidized Loan and Direct PLUS Loan.

Applicants can apply for most loans through the University of Utah Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. To begin the process of applying for federal

assistance, fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

We value geographic diversity in our student body and want to make sure that well-qualified students from out-of-state have an opportunity to participate in

our MBA program. If you are applying for the MBA program but will not qualify for resident tuition, you may be eligible to receive a non-resident tuition waiver

to significantly reduce the cost of the program. In fact, in 2013, all admitted MBA students without in-state residency status were awarded a scholarship that

waived 100% of nonresident tuition.

All out-of-state applicants are automatically considered for this waiver. Applicants with a Utah address who may not qualify for residency are encouraged to

email us directly to request consideration.
