The Historv of the Class of 1932j
The Cine-Kodak Film of a Member of the Class of '32
SbttHTG—A dreary, rainy day, September 17, 1928. Saint Mary's hi harmony with weather. Newgirls crying from lonesameness. (Tears are dried the next day when school begins in earnest.)
Reel 1—Eighteen homesick, rather green Freshmen, who matriculated with Miss Holt the day before,
now start on what seems to them an endless journey. But in a few days they are happy again. Andwhy shouldn't they be? Think of the excitement of being elected to the Mu or Sigma Athletic Society
and the E. A. P. or Sigma Lambda Literary Society, of electing Frances Haigh as our President, of going
to the Hallowe'en party and Colonial Ball for the first time, of going home for Christmas and Spring
Holidays and of singing to our much admired Seniors at the end of the year as we move down on the
front steps to take the place of the Sophomores.
Reel, 2—The September of 1929 finds only six of the class back. They have all grown a great deal
and are no longer the green Freshmen of a year ago. Charlotte Winborne, Margaret Dey and Gertrude*
Mott .ioin our ranks this year. Oh the joy of being Old Girls! We are the escorts to the Old Girl-New
Girl party instead of the escorted. We have been a little blue about starting work again, but after
this we feel better and enthusiastically elect Margaret Dey as our President and Miss Bohannanour adviser. Under their guidance we pass a happy year enjoying the Colonial Ball and Class parties
just as much as the year before. We are very proud of having the seniors as our sister class ajnd
nothing gives us as much pleasure as the tea Miss Holt and Miss Albertson give the two
classes together. The last scene shows us bidding our sister class good-bye and moving down to take
the place of the Juniors.
Reel, 3—There is an air of sophistication hovering over the next scene. The little Freshmen are nowJuniors. Again there are only six of us back but our cla-ss is greatly enlarged by New Girls. Twenty-
three of the members of the class of '32 come in this year. We elect one of the new girls, Caroline Dunn,as our new President and Miss Matthews as our adviser. What a busy and exciting time we have
this year! There is English M. to keep us working hard but little that matters—we can go down townunchaperoned on Monday mornings and one other day during the week and, if we are very good, we can
go visiting on Monday afternoons. Among other things we give a Hallowe'en Party. Our "Cave of
Death" strikes terror into the hearts of the New Girls. We are to give a Senior-Junior banquet a little
later so we sell hot dogs at this party to make a little money. The hot dog stand is quite a success be-
cause this is the only time during the year that the girls are not strictly forbidden to eat hot dogs.
When we come back after Christmas the first thing we think of is the banquet. This is a big occasion
for us. The Juniors the year before had theirs at the Carolina Hotel but wre have ours at the Woman'.1;
Club. Imagine our excitement when Dr. Way permitted us to have an orchestra of boys—an unheard
of wonder! Evening dresses are taken out for the first time since Christmas and girls run aroundtrying to get someone—anyone—to help them with their toasts. This proves to be a great success muchto the relief of "Carrie" and her helpers. As this reel ends the class has at last reaehedi the bottom
step. We are to be Seniors next year!
Reel 4—A dream realized. We are at last Seniors. It is quite thrilling for several of us becamse
we have never been Seniors before. Rasabell Elliott is elected as our President and Miss Pope as our
adviser. "Carrie" did so well the year before that she is elected as the President of the Student. Body.
We are delighted to find a new girl is entering our class. Jane Toms joins us. We feel awfully im-
portant—we can sign in the Senior Book when we go out instead of getting a slip from Miss
Albertson—we can chaperone—we can sit in the back of the Chapel—and we are the first Senior Class
to whom the privilege of "sleeping through" every Monday morning is granted. Christmas comes andwe give a play "The Fair;- Shoemaker," the night before we go home. When wie come back there are
exams to be taken but we pass and go happily on our way »s before. The Sunday after exams Dr, andMrs. Way give us a party. We have always envied the Seniors when they told us about the lovely time
they have had and now we are the envied ones. After Spring Holidays comes the Senior Vaudeville
and then the Junior-Senior Banquet at which we are the guests this time. We all have a wonderful
time but it makes us realize that in a few weeks we shall leave our belovtd Alma Mater never to return
again as students.
Commencement—what a world of different feelings it brings. The Seniors are a little sad as they move
off the steps singing "Goodbye School, We're Through" for the next day they are to get their diplomas
and each must go her own way!Katherine Jamieson.

Class Poem
OUB. ship has sailed on dangerous journey sent
To search for knowledge— not on pleasure bent.
Some find, in part, the treasure aftei toil.
But ne'er a one has captured all the spoil.
Our first brief pause is ended. Far behind
We leave the harbor, sheltered from the wind
;
And on our way, alone, we go to fight,
Xo patient hands to steer our course aright.
Yet what remains beyond the horizon?
What storms to brave, what blist'ring sun?
Can we endure the lot that's cast by fate.
And come to rest in brave, undaunted state?
Each one of us must steer a different course
In seas oft rough with sorrow and remorse.
Some few, successful, reach the journey's end.
They're lost who find the leak too late to mend.
Where'er we go, whatever we attain
Can never dim the mem'ry of the name,
Saint Mary's, dear to us for friendships won.
It stands before our eyes and beckons on.
And when we come, with sails full-furled to harbor,
We'll spend the passing moments, filled with fervor
—
Bememb'ring each dear face of our first crew,
With sad sweet thoughts, the class of thirty-two.
Grace Bowes.

Epilogue
Shall we recall, when this year ends,
Our fun, our foolishness, our friends?
We've made this Stage Coach to convey
Our thoughts on memory's pleasant way;
And though it lacks magnificence
{For this year shudders at expense)
We hope our Stage Coach has indeed
Been able somehow to succeed.
