■ Tacrolimus plus prednisolone improvedsymptoms associated with Satoyoshi syndrome, according to researchers from Japan. They report thecase of a 13-year-old girl with Satoyoshi syndromewho had painful intermittent muscle spasms thatinvolved all her extremities, as well as alopecia andamenorrhoea. Baclofen and IV immunoglobulintherapy was unsuccessful. Treatment with tacrolimus3 mg/day and prednisolone 30mg on alternate dayswas initiated after three days of treatment with IVmethylprednisolone 1000 mg/day. The severity of themuscle spasms decreased gradually over a 10-monthperiod and thickening of the patient’s hair wasnoticeable within 7 months. The patient also reportedregular menstruation at 4 months. The clinicalimprovement correlated with decreases in the serumlevels of antinuclear antibody, anti-acetylcholinereceptor antibody and serum immunoglobulin G.Endo K, et al.
