48HOUR FILM CHALLENGE

The festival runs a filmmaking challenge each year that has produced over 1000 films. In 2015, over one weekend, 183 new scifi films were made. The challenge jury is made up of celebrity judges, who have included John Landis, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Guillermo Del Toro. Our biggest success so far has been ‘discovering’ Gareth Edwards (GODZILLA).

Shortlisted films are featured on our partner’s websites and all films go on YouTube and watchscifi.com.

At the challenge briefing and award ceremony, sponsors can hand out goody bags, teeshirts etc.

The rules of the challenge are simple:

1. Participant’s team registers online

2. Teams assemble for briefing where each team is given:

• A title

• A line of dialogue

• A prop or action list

3. The teams make a film in 48 hours!

We also give them an optional ‘science theme’ – to help the creative juices flow.

These science themes are selected from a competition run for NEW SCIENTIST magazine’s 1.8million Twitter followers.

48HOUR FILM CHALLENGE

The films made have gone on to other festivals, been broadcast on TV and been highlighted on many many websites. With it’s own Facebook page of dedicated filmmakers and a huge Twitter following, our challenge is the single biggest event of its kind in the world.

Being part of the challenge lives well beyond our event as the films always carry our supporter’s branding.

CASE STUDIES

THE GAMES COMPANY

Working with Trion Games and 2K Games we helped the release campaign for the game XCOM: ENEMY WITHIN and DEFIANCE. • Fully branded windows at our venues, PoS

offered the audience a chance to play in front of great backdrops

• Logos for the game across all our literature, web site, competitions to win the game and so on.

• Themed all-nighter with movies that followed similar themes to the game titles.

• Across all our activity we delivered around 6 million OTV messages for our sponsors.

THE TECH COMPANY

Working with Canon we helped the campaign for their new Cinema-Class cameras. • We created an all-day workshop with experts

talking about film production with experts and kit on-hand.

• We had over 180 films made for the 48hr film challenge and Canon’s logo appears on all the films, many of which have had film festival success.

• Canon literature and messages were targeted at our nationwide film making community via our facebook/twitter network and solus mailings. Generating some 1.5million OTVs

• All programming and logistics was handled by our team.
