CWA International Day
Tooraweenah Public School students attended the CWA International Day at the CWA rooms, last Thursday. Students were privileged to hear from a guest speaker and share an afternoon tea provided by the CWA. Thank you to the Tooraweenah CWA for organizing another successful event. It was very pleasing to hear that our students conducted themselves with a great deal of school pride and exemplary behavior at this event. Congratulations to the Country of Study winners in each category.

Safe, Respectful Achievers
Reptile Show The School students and Preschoolers attended a Reptile Show here at school today. Students learned about minibeasts including the spiny leaf insect, giant rainforest millipede, giant burrowing cockroach and even a tarantula. Reptiles included the common thick-tailed gecko, shingleback skink, blue tongued skink, bearded dragon and lace monitor. The students saw a number of pythons including the woma python, albino carpet python and centralian carpet python. There was even a saltwater crocodile called Hulk! There were a few nervously excited looks, as students were given the opportunity to be ‘hands-on’ with some of our native reptiles! Here is what a few of our students had to say… “I learned that the Common Thick-Tailed Gecko lets go of its tail when it gets scared,” said Daisy. “It was really fun to see all the animals and to meet David,” said Lara. “It was fun to touch the animals and hold the salt water crocodile. It was cool when the lizard sat in my hair,” said Jahkaia. “It was amazing to pat the reptiles. I loved holding the salt water crocodile,” said Indiana. “It was outstanding to see the reptiles and pat the pythons,” said Lexi. “It was good to see all the animals. I loved it!” said Holly. “The Shinkleback Skink puts its tail over its head to protect itself from birds or predators,” said Tallis. “I liked the snakes. I liked the big one,” said Sam. “I liked the goanna and how we got to hold the salt water crocodile. When you held the crocodile it sunk in your hands and was very squishy,” said Lily. “If I could take one home, I’d like the biggest python,” said Souljah.
