Wow forty years! Forty years is a long time (longer than I have been alive). I take my hat off to the pioneers who had the foresight to bring this great breed to Canada and to those of you who continue to move it forward. As with any breed, you have seen a lot of changes in the last four decades; however not all the cattle that were imported to this country were able to adapt and contribute to the Canadian beef industry like the Gelbvieh breed. Today the breed has a strong foot hold in the industry, due to its acceptance in the commercial industry. That was very obvious this spring, as the Gelbvieh bull sales were some of the strongest and steadiest in Western Canada. Successful ranchers looked to source the genetics to enhance their cross breeding programs, to make their operations more profitable. This breed is in an enviable position, as commercial cattlemen seek it not only as a source of added performance and pay weight but also for its extreme maternal benefits. Once again that is a credit to you the breeders who have bred the cattle to perform and thrive as Canucks.

The sale offering in this catalogue is truly fitting to celebrate forty years of success and are genetic tools to move the breed forward into the next forty years. Leading off is a unique pick, something I do not think has ever been done at Agribition. The choice is yours of eight long yearling bulls from one operation all standing in the Auditorium before you, each capable of moving your program forward. Then you have the opportunity to select bred females who are all destined to become great donor females and fancy heifer calves, many who have the potential to impact the show ring and the breed for a long time. We also have the right to flush a proven donor, this is only possible because it is the fortieth Anniversary celebration.

The Man-Sask Gelbvieh Association is pleased to present the 14th Sweetheart Gelbvieh Classic, a people’s choicefemale futurity to be part of the Canadian Western Agribition Gelbvieh Show in November 2012.The Sweetheart Classic is open to any age of Gelbvieh female entered in the regular Canadian Western AgribitionGelbvieh Show. There will be two bred females and two open heifer calves in the final. Futurity members mayenter their females till the day before the show. The futurity entry fee is $100.00 per head, with a maximum of two(2) entries per membership.

Memberships to the futurity will be sold for $300.00 which entitles the member to judge (one ballot) theSweetheart Classic and to receive a limited edition jacket. Members will also be entered into a draw to win theproceeds from the sale of the Sweetheart Classic Champion. Members must be present to vote. No proxyvote allowed.

The people’s choice judging of the Sweetheart Classic will take place immediately following the Gelbvieh Bull Show.The Female Gelbvieh Show will commence upon the completion of this portion of the futurity. At the end of theGelbvieh Female show, the top four (4) females as selected by the futurity members will be announced in randomorder. The following day, at the Canadian Western Agribition Sale, the final four (4) Sweetheart finalists will bejudged during the Presale Reception. The Sweetheart Classic Champion will be announced and then auctioned offas the feature lot.

After holding our Summer Open House, and then hosting the North Dakota Gelbvieh Field Day, these two females received the most attention of the open and bred heifers. We would love to take both females home, but we wanted to help celebrate the 40th Anniversary by consigning one of our best. You can’t miss with either of these females. Both are front pasture quality, and will have a great career as show heifers, producing cows, or donors. We can’t decide which one is better - you tell us after the gavel falls!

The American side of her pedigree is loaded with some of the most influential genetics of the last 20 years - Cocoa, Exclusive, Advantage, and Anchor. She sells bred to KTHU El Paso X114, an Astro son we purchased from Hojer Gelbvieh in SD. The El Paso calves are one of our most consistent sire groups and are sure to be noticed this spring! This sweet red heifer was the winner of the “People’s Choice” vote at our Open House. Deep bodied, wide topped, and still feminine in her lines, she combines all of the qualities of a high power female in a package that will be usable in nearly any program. The Fighting Irish daughters have proven to be some of the top producers at PHG. We purchased “RWG Why Me 9515” from Royal Western Gelbvieh and he has left his mark on our herd in a short amount of time. Another great female going back to Wrangler. They are moderate framed with a tremendous barrel and middle. It is cliché but you can’t miss with her.

Here is a February heifer that is sure to make a lot of friends. This dark red, deep ribbed, wedge shaped female has the balance and style to attract your attention sale day. She is very structurally correct and shows a lot of class and charisma. She is moderate, thick and very maternally orientated. She comes from a big bodied female, with a very tidy udder and will no doubt make a top end brood cow.
