Dear Family,
I want to extend to you prayers for a most blessed Easter
celebration.
This Easter, let us remember that this is the mercy work of the
Lord. Our Lord came for one reason…mercy. This is no more
beautifully stated than in the Easter Proclamation, the Exsultet,
which says, “Our birth would have been no gain, had we not been
redeemed. O wonder of your humble care for us! O love, O charity
beyond all telling, to ransom a slave you gave away your Son! O truly
necessary sin of Adam, destroyed completely by the Death of Christ!
O happy fault that earned so great, so glorious a Redeemer!”
These are almost shocking words, but true nonetheless. It is
because of sin that our Lord and Savior entered our world. God did
not come to judge us; He did not come to make us suffer; He did not
come to do anything but give us His Divine Mercy. With His Passion,
Death, and Resurrection, that Divine Mercy began.
And yet, even more shocking is the fact that our Lord’s
Passion, Death, and Resurrection is not, all by itself, the greatest
event in the history of mankind. The greatest event in the history of
mankind is that but it’s that along with when you and I receive and
accept that Divine Mercy He offers us which is made possible by His
Passion, Death, and Resurrection. Just like any other gift, if it is not
accepted, it remains ineffective. But once the gift is accepted and
opened, it can begin to operate.
Our dear Lord’s gift of gifts, His mercy, does one thing; it
heals. The Divine Physician seeks, He longs, to heal the wounds our
sins cause. We see this on the cross. The wounds on His body from
the excessive scourging, blows to the face, the nails and the final
thrust of a spear are the wounds our sins cause. And, they are proof
that He longs, He thirsts, to take them to Himself so that they may be
healed. This is Divine Mercy. Come, receive the healing of His
forgiveness from Easter through Divine Mercy Sunday. Bring to
completion the Gift of Easter. God bless and Mary keep you.
