H J Round discovered electroluminescence using SiC and a cats whisker. He was one of the early pioneers of radio and received 117 patents.
1920
Oleg V. Losev studied the phenomenon of LEDs in radio sets. His first work on LEDs involved a report on light emission from SiC.
James R. Biard and Gary Pittman worked together and developed the Infrared LED at Texas Instruments.
Nick Holonyak Jr. developed the red LED, the first LED of visible light at GE. He used GaAsP on GaAs substrate.
M. George Craford creates the first yellow LED using GaAsP at Monsanto. Herbert Maruska and Jacques Pankovedeveloped the violet LED using Mg-doped GaNfilms.
Shuji Nakamura developed the world’s first bright blue LED using GaN
Thomas P. Pearselldeveloped special high brightness LEDs for fiber optic use.
Ching Tang and Steven Van Slyke developed the first OLED at Kodak.
Chihaya Adachi invented electron transport material and constructed a double heterostructureOLED.
Jeremy Burroughes, Richard Friend and DonalBradley together discovered polymer based OLEDs. Teruo Tohma developed
the first commercial OLED displays using PMOLED technology at Pioneer.
