Firmitas: Structural Integrity, materials utilized, joinery, and tectonic composition.
Materials used for the construction of the proposed “Activity Adventure” furniture design will be engineered wood (particleboard), with a cherry wood finish. Juvenile print fabric will be applied to create a multi-functional tent and puppet stand curtains, which will add to the visual appeal. Screws will be used to hold wood pieces together, with blocking and/or bracing included as needed. The rectilinear form provides a sense of stability, strength, power, balance, and reliability. Particle Board- also called chip board and flake board is an engineered
wood product that is made by binding together wood chips or flakes with an
adhesive binder under pressure.Advantages:
• Very tight molecular structure.
• Sturdy material that holds up well under
pressure.• Good in nail holding. • Strong load-bearing
on the horizontal.
Disadvantages:• Does not easily
bend during processing, and
cannot make arc door panels.
• Requires heavy machinery for
processing.(Saurav)
Square drive screws and drivers are preferred by many
craftspeople because they drive well, the heads won’t strip out, and the screws have a small,
relatively attractive heads; the last is important, when considering
them as an “expressed joint” detail.(Postell)
Corner blocks are essential to have at the point of
greatest stress and strain in furniture. Bracing should be
used at points of stress in tables for adequate strength.

With Commodity it is important to consider ergonomics. The ergonomic
findings for this furniture design project reveals the average height of the age ranges indicated for the design. These findings allow for a design that will provide comfort for the user. The performance is intended to provide sensory
stimulation for children between the ages of two-five years which is an important learning method for
children within this age group. The furniture piece attracts children
with the tactile appeal, and colorful accents for visual stimulation.

D
elightVenustas: Form, spatial organization, and aesthetics.
Form: Vertical and horizontal lines create a sturdily framed geometric, rectilinear form.
Spatial Organization: Spatial organization will be provided by creating a multi-functional activity center, which makes the most of this furniture piece. A minimum of four activities can be utilized within this one piece.
A bench for sitting and reading, a tunnel beneath for crawling through, a chalkboard for writing and drawing, and a window for a puppet show. Also,
draped fabric allows for a tented environment if desired.
Aesthetics: The visual appeal is acheived by incorporating clean lines, a balanced design, and the use of vibrant fabric.
Facilitating learning through play, as is acccomplished here, is delightful!
