Engineering Process

■ Requirements Analysis and Capture – Facilitate meetings with customer and partners to document the system requirements.

■ Functional Specification – Draft the functional and technical specifications based on the requirements

■ Test Plan – Draft the test plan and test cases mapped to each of the requirements to insure thorough test coverage. This is also important in defining when the project is “done”

■ Design – Draft the system design and validate it with a review process to insure all requirements are met.

■ Development – Code, document, unit test and integrate the software modules

■ QA/Test – Execute the test plan against the software system

Smart Grid

■ Utilities need more Power to satisfy demand – but only a few days a year● Build 1 less Power Plant – save $350M

■ Change consumer behavior● Time of day billing

● Instantaneous feedback to consumers on usage

■ Utility can manage load directly● During times of peak load, the utilities can send commands to

control devices within the home (with prior agreement with consumer)
