An Open Invitation! How many of us have been invited to dinner, party, book club, or other event that we were reluctant to attend? We gather ourselves and go to the event only to find out that it was not so bad after all and more than that, we actually enjoyed ourselves and were grateful we had attended! Our invitations to friends, family and even strangers to attend church activities and worship can feel this same way to others. Consequently, we may not share our faith or invite others to our faith gatherings as much as we could.
Life –Way Research conducted a study that found the following: Despite a vast majority of Christians believing it’s their duty to share their faith and having the confidence to do so, 25 percent say they have shared their faith once or twice, and 14 percent have shared three or more times over the last six months. Nearly 48 % of church attendees stated they have not invited anyone to church with them during that same six month period.
I truly believe that the only way others will come to know Christ is through tangible relationships with believers that lead to invitations….NOT JUST invitations to our high church services and benevolence ministries…But invitations to our dinner tables, small groups, family picnics, girl’s trips, fishing excursions, bike rides and impromptu lunches! Outreach is a matter of the heart which must involve us mimicking the behavior of our Savior who invited those who were not disciples (the unregenerate, broken women, tax collectors, poor, lame, the least of these!) to eat, fellowship and sit in His Presence. And…..THEY WERE CHANGED FOREVER!
In the words of Gospel Singer Marvin Winans…I pray that we will embrace a motto for outreach and witnessing that is as simple as,
I heard joyful sound, Jesus saves, Jesus saves. Spread the tiding, spread them all around, Jesus saves, Jesus saves.
To the utmost Jesus saves. He will pick you up and turn you around, Hallelujah, hallelujah, Jesus saves.
Now if you're a liar or a cheater, don’t leave, Jesus saves, Jesus saves.
Maybe you need to go and get a friend, Go and grab a neighbor, Tell them that He saves, Jesus saves.
To the utmost Jesus saves. He will pick you up and turn you around, Hallelujah, hallelujah, Jesus saves.
National Back to Church Sunday is, September 17, 2017. Invite a friend, neighbor, co-worker, sibling, spouse, parent or even an enemy to experience life changing worship, prayer and preaching at Heritage Church and let God do the rest! REACH OUT!
