LO: To use watercolours and collage to create a landscape.

In this lesson, you will be using paints and black paper to create a

colour wash of a landscape (an Egyptian skyline).

If you don’t have paints at home, you could use colouring pencils to

create a similar effect.

Otherwise, why not do a sketch of an Egyptian landscape? There’ll be

lots of examples in the slides.

Part One: Do a colour wash like an Egyptian sunset.

Step 1: Using long strokes going in the same direction, paint the bottom half

of the paper/card, gradually mixing with water as you wash it up the

page.

Step 2: Mix a small amount of the second paint colour into the first and

start painting.

Make sure the colours blend.

Part Two: Create your Egyptian desert skyline, using

black paper.

Step 1: Sketch your skyline onto the BACK of your black paper.

Make sure it is one continuous line from the bottom of the paper.

You could include pyramids, the Sphinx, camels etc.

Step 2: Carefully cut out your skyline.

Step 3: When your colour wash is dry, turn your skyline over (so any

remaining pencil marks can’t be seen) and stick it onto your colour wash.

Moving to secondary school is a big step and can seem a bit scary. You could be worried about leaving our school that you know really well.

You might find that there are more buildings and that everything seems bigger than Knaphill School, but you'll find your way round in no time.

Whether you're going to walk there or get the bus or train, getting to your new school can seem tricky at first but within a few weeks it will be second nature!

Let’s share some worries on Padlet!

Even if you’re at home, you can still add your

worries to your class link.

You don’t have to add your name to your Padlet.

Worries

It is really natural to be worried about things we don’t know. You probably have lots of questions and concerns about next year – but guess what? Most of you are probably all thinking and feeling the

same things!

Page 35: Year 6 Topic Home Learning - knaphill.surrey.sch.uk · Year 6 Home Learning Timetable Monday 29th June –Friday 3rd July 2020 Please see a suggested timetable of the activities that

Agony Aunt Letters

You wrote Agony Aunt letters during Anti-Bullying week.

Can you remember what one is?

People sometimes write to Agony Aunts in newspapers, magazines and on

websites. The Agony Aunt publishes their response, which offers advice or possible solutions,

anonymously and this can help other people with similar problems.

Page 36: Year 6 Topic Home Learning - knaphill.surrey.sch.uk · Year 6 Home Learning Timetable Monday 29th June –Friday 3rd July 2020 Please see a suggested timetable of the activities that

36

Features of an Agony Aunt

Letter

The ‘expert’ usually does the following:

1. Creates a relationship using the direct address, ‘you’. E.g. ‘You sound very level-headed.’

2. Offers sympathy and empathy e.g. ‘I do feel for you.’ 3. Uses informal/chatty language e.g. ‘You should get it off

your chest.’ 4. Clichés and euphemisms are often used e.g. ‘You might get

butterflies when thinking about your new school.’ 5. Has a spoken quality to their reply and may use exclamations e.g. ‘Oh Janet, please don’t give up!’

6. Suggests that they have knowledge and expertise e.g. ‘This isn’t the first time someone has gone through this...’

7. Uses rhetorical questions to suggest the answer is obvious e.g. ‘What good would it do you?’

8. Uses imperatives ‘do this...do that’ e.g.’ start today, write a list...’
