The Sting Mantiss – A True Predator

IntroductionOriginating in the lush green land, alongside the River Nile, the Sting Mantiss is a mini beast like no other. Possessing impressive strength, this creature has the potential to create chaos and havoc across the entire planet – not just in its country of origin, Egypt. This invertebrate is diminutive in size, but deadly in nature. Numbers of this animal are increasing at an astonishing rate - there have been more than double the number of sightings in the last year alone. Such an increase in numbers has led to scientists and experts taking drastic measures to ensure that the general public are informed about the nature of the Sting Mantiss.

55

LO: To write an information text. This is my example of an appearance section. I’m sure you can do better, but it might give you an idea of the

type of information you could include.

Appearance

With its easily distinguished black and yellow body – similar to a bumblebee – the Mantisshas a visual design that is easily identified. In order to intimidate its prey, a stinger unfurls itself from the rear of the mini beast, in addition to the grasping, clutching mandibles at the front. Poisonous venom seeps from every orifice. Resting menacingly above these razor-sharp pincers, lie two dark gold orbs nestled into an emerald blanket of coarse fur. Fluttering wings emerge from the creature’s body, reaching outwards to the sky, a blur of motion. Wings are not the only method of transport utilised by the Sting Mantiss.

LO: To write an information text. This is my example of an appearance section. I’m sure you can do better, but it might give you an idea of the

type of information you could include.

Appearance - Continued

Extending elegantly from beneath the main body of the beast, five elongated legs search through the surrounding area, eternally questing for food. Containing no less than fifty nerve ends, each leg has the ability to gather a wreath of information regarding everything they come into contact with. In certain extreme circumstances, each leg can be detached and reattached at will, dependent on both the situation and the habitat. Every feature of this creature combines to create a beast of minor proportions, yet major potential consequences.
