Yarn Count

Yarncount is the numerical expression which indicates or expressed the fineness orcoarseness of yarn. According to Textile Institute, Count a number indicatingthe mass per unit length or the length per unit mass of yarn. Yarn count can bedescribed into two systems:

1. Direct system or fixed weight.

2. Indirect system or fixed length.

DirectSystem: The yarn number or count is the mass of unit length of yarn. Higher thecount coarser the yarn. This system is commonly used for man-made fiber, jute,silk etc.

IndirectSystem: In indirect yarn counting system the count or number is the length perunit mass of the yarn. Higher the count finer the yarn. This system is commonlyused for cotton, worsted, linen etc.
