This public service system is designed specially for the growing and aging populations in China. It tries to help the elderly rebuild their social network safely, connects them to social services and activities, and helps them find a sense of purpose and a sense of belonging to groups and socity through helping others and share their knowledge and experience, supporting helping the senior to lead happy, active, valuable and fulfilling aging lives.

“WHY” OF THIS DESIGN

MY OBSERVATION:

When he gets out of the sofa or rise from the chair,he often refuses to be helped, even if he really has some difficulities with it.

They hire a full-time caregiver, but he is more willing to bathe by himself and sometimes he even help the nurse do some housework.

Occasionally, he contect his old friends by phone or wechat. While they have less and less face-to-face communication.

MY OBSERVATION:

She has retired for more than 10 ys, but she really dresses herself up everyday, generously and decently, in all weathers, even she just stays in front of the TV at home all the day.

Everyday she watches World News on time and be extremely concerned about current affairs. She will be unusually talktive, if people talks with her about these political problems.

As a retired doctor, she is always ready to give her advice to neighbors and friends when they have some health problems.

My initial idea is a simple tracking device for my grandpa who is a very extroverted and active person.Several years ago,when he just retired,he usually walked out with his many old friends and neighbors,but many of them have moved to other communities or even other cities in recent years. Now, grandpa rarely goes downstairs and usually stands in front of the window, looking down to the centre garden below where many people walk and talk. With a tracking app, he can go out freely by himself, without familar friends, walking in the park and knowing new people and we, his family, can find his position anytime if he needs our help. While,after further observation, I change my idea and try to find the real demand.

MORE OBSERVATION on My Grandparents’ Life WHAT I FOUND

This community system design began with the observation of my grandparents’ life.

WHAT “AGING” USUALLY MEANS

The observation made me puzzled at first, while I found the real reason behind their behavior at last. Only simply help and company seem farfrom enough to them. Their every move told me that need to show their independence and value, although they may weaken and decline.

WHAT“AGING”CAN ACTUALLY MEANWhen it comes to“aging”, people usually thinks of change, loss, loneliness, almost not being able to do anything and always needing someone to help. Lose of dignityand independence are considered inevitable in people’s senior lives.

What is far too often overlooked is thatgettng older also can mean havingmore experiences & wisdom and havingfree time to be active in various activities. Actually, older people are just like a walking library. They are just looking for opportunities to show their graet vaule.

They can view the community notice,activities information and new tasks information on it clearly.With their community card they can sign up and enroll any activities and tasks

easily and safely.

To make the system easy to use and the activities and tasks informationeasy to access,“Happy Aging”app

is a specail design for the old.Through their mobile devices,they

can view information or sign up for activities&tasks,wherever they are.

This is a support app of the service system. Through this app, those

community members who need help can post their problems or difficulties,such as “find someone help walk my

Food is essential for survival and the food production is the major cause of man-made global warming.Thus,It’s an urgent call to Reduce Food Waste. Saving food at home is not ony to save your wallet but also to save our planet. Using “NOWaste Kitchen” to end the food waste at your home, you save the other 2 billion from such a small behavior change.

“NOWaste Kitchen” helps you save the food, the planet and your wallet. It’s your private kitchen manager,keeping your kitchen in an orderly way.

This design can change the situation. The point of the app is to find you great recipes based on what you alreadyhave on hand. It can help you arrange your food storage and organize their expiration dates.If you use this app wisely, you may never have to throw out food anymore.

Searching for recipes in the app, the user will be reminded of which ingredients have been in the storage and need not to buy, which cooking tools are in need.

It can help greatly reduce the waitting time in the gerenal hospitals and make it convient for the patients in remote area to have access to high-quality medical care. Here,“EASYHealth” is an easy-to-use secure responsive website designed for the patients, carrying them more covenience,basing on the new “stratified medical system”.With the help of it, the patients can send appointment requests,track their case status,have access to medical matching service,their health infornation and pay their medical expenses online anytime, anywhere.

IDEARATION

After ideation and several iterations about the sketches on paper, I started to designwireframes, using Balsamiq.

To provide patients a more convenient experience of medical care, I made brainstorm, information architect and

personas as above to help me complete this design. My design is divided into four sections:“manage appointments”,“trackthe case”,“personal medical record”and

“Quick Pay”.

Jinhe Hotel is located in the city centre of Chengdu,which is a famous historical street area of Qing Dynasty. The government of Chengdu wants to expand the hotel, with extra commercial space. The goal of new design is to build a friendly and harmonious urban public space with local characteristics,which is well integrated into the urban fabric and accessible to everyone. In other words, it should be both a place for the visitors to get a quick grasp of Chengdu to understand local culture and history, and a space for the city’s owners to find a sense of belonging and identity where they come to refer back when they go looking for“who they really are”.

RESEARCH-SITE HISTORY

Tracing back to the ancient days of ChengDu,this area was filled with imperial hutong courtyards of Qing dynasty.During the Republic China period, it was the territory where the magistracy and dignitaries used to live and concentrate. Filled with mounts of celebrities’ stories it is a direct witness to the history of Chengdu. Although the old time has gone, the memory of the city and old life should not be forgotten. Thus, to perserve the historical culture of this area and allow the visitors and citizens to have an “old” experience in the “new” space, our design should be well integrated into the characteristic urban fabric of this area and the new commercial space should be a modern interpretation of the space of traditioanal hutong courtyards .

The existing buildings surrounding our site are mostly aged buildings with pitched roof, gray walls and tiles. This kind of vernacular dwelling is a collection of multi-courtyard-style buildings.

There is similarity between the task of robotic carrying and the action of bird nesting. The bird nesting is a systemically repetitive monement. There is an embedded algorithm in this natural phenomenon. Followed by this algorithm, robot is able to operate the construction by imitating bird nesting. This experiment has the strong feature of self-organization and evolution, which eventually turns out to be a physically accumulated structure.The whole nesting installation includes following elements: a. KUKA robots which takes control of the movement of nesting tool. b. A customized birds-beak-like tool head. c. several external fabricationg devices including a chain saw and a feeding box.
