Company Profile: Glasgow Scientific Services, part of Land and Environmental Services is a busy public analyst’s laboratory in the North of Glasgow. With around 50 personnel, it provides a comprehensive scientific, analytical and consultancy service from its UKAS accredited laboratory. Amongst our customers are local authorities, private business and government agencies. All aspects of environmental monitoring are undertaken, covering radioactivity, contaminated land, tip leachates, landfill gases, air pollution and noxious odours. The laboratory can classify waste to indicate its status with respect to disposal legislation.

The Food Laboratory provides a Public Analyst service for adulteration, contamination, substitution, composition and labelling while the Microbiology Laboratory provides the Food Examiner and water examination services. The Consumer Protection function analyse and advise, amongst other things, on toys, graphic instruments, textiles, household chemicals, ceramic wear, and provide an Agricultural Analyst service for fertilisers and animal feedstuffs. Our Water Laboratory analyse and advises on the quality of drinking water, swimming pool water and Jacuzzi waters. It can also help identify the source of surface or ground water.

Key Responsibilities and Skills Required:Working in a laboratory based environment and training over a 4 year period towards a Modern Apprenticeship at Level 3 in Laboratory Science. Training will be delivered at Forth Valley College, day release and includes NC Units leading to a PDA in Laboratory Science followed by an HNC in Applied Sciences.
