EHA Course :: Liverpool 08/01/11 :: Mag. Roman Filz page 2Run around. The athleteplays the ball with the insideof one foot and attempts torun around the ballclockwise. The athlete has tostop the ball with the sole.

Then the athlete plays the ball with theinside of one foot and attempts to runaround the ball anticlockwise. Again theathlete has to stop the ball with the sole.

Whistle = change into the otherdirection

Telemark. The athlete plays the ball withone foot, waits for about a second, runs afterthe ball and stops it with the knee withouttouching the ground with any other part ofthe body (telemark style taken from skijumping). Next time the athlete stops the ballwith the other knee.

Elbow. The athlete plays the ball with onehand, waits for about half a second, runsafter the ball and stops it with the elbowwithout touching the ground with any otherpart of the body. Next time the athlete stopsthe ball with the other knee.

Variation. For example combine the Run around exercise with the Telemark stop for

skilled athletes.DRIBBLING THE BALL Organisation:The athletes move in one half of the court,

Task:getting to know the handball, using ambidextrousdribbling in different situations with different inputs

Change # 1.The athletes are only allowedto walk forwards on tvarious lines. They startdribbling with the left hand. If the coachblows the whistle once, the athletes have todribble with the other hand (auditive input).

Change # 2.The athletes are still onlyallowed to walk on the lines. If the coachblows the whistle, the athletes still have tochange the dribbling hand. But if the coachblows the whistle twice, they have to changedirection (backwards/ forwards, auditiveinput).

Change # 3.Play continues in the same wayas Change # 2, but if the coach whistlesthree times, the athletes must turn around(clockwise/ then anticlockwise) and keep thesame direction (auditive input).

EHA Course :: Liverpool 08/01/11 :: Mag. Roman Filz page 3Greeting nicely. The athletes are onlyallowed to walk forwards on the lines andthen shake hands with another player.During shaking hands they must continuedribbling! Only after the handshake may bothathletes step aside and continue their moveon the line. Variations. High five, low five, knuckles etc.

Combination. The athletes continue with the Greeting nicely exercise, but now they haveto take a look at the coach, who keeps walking around from place to place. Whenever thecoach holds his/ her ball with the left hand, the athletes must dribble it with the left hand. When the coach changes to the right hand, they have to dribble with the right hand (visualinput).THROWING THE BALLINTO THE AIR

The athletes stand in a circle/ half circlegetting to knowthe handball, passing and catching the handball in different

situationsThrowing # 1. The athlete throws the ballinto the air and catches it again. The ball isonly allowed to touch the ground once.

Throwing # 2. The athlete throws the ballinto the air and catches it again. The ball isnot allowed to touch the ground.

Throwing # 3. The athlete throwsthe ball into the air. He tries to clapas many times as possible. The hecatches the ball. Variation. Theathlete claps behind his/ her back.

Throwing # 5. The athlete throwsthe ball into the air, sits down andcatches the ball in the sitting posi-tion. The action is then performedthe opposite way around: Thesitting athlete throws the ball intothe air and catches it in the stan-ding position. Variation. WORK OUT :: BALL - COORDINATION WITH THE AGILITYLADDERStart. The athletes start using the agilityladder without additional moves with the ball. They just hold the ball in one hand. There isan endless number of moves, but I wouldrecommend to start with easy movesforwards first.

Change of the ball. The moving athleteholds the ball in one hand. The coachwhistles once and the athletes have to putthe ball from one hand into the other. The

speed and the quality of the move should notchange from the time of changing the ballbetween one hand and the other hand(auditive input).

Shooting faint. The moving athlete holdsthe ball in one hand. If the coach whistlestwice, the athlete makes a shooting faint.Again the speed and the quality of the moveshould not change at the time of theshooting faint (auditive input).

Combination # 1. If the coach whistlesonce, the athlete must change the ball fromone hand to the other. If the coach whistlestwice, the athlete must make a shootingfaint. Again the speed and the quality of themove should not change (auditive input).

Combination # 2. It is the same exercise ascombination # 1, but now the coach also hasa ball and dribbles every now and then.Whenever the coach dribbles, the athleteshave to dribble once (different auditiveinputs).

Circle. The athlete circlesthe ball around his/ her hip.Whenever the coachwhistles, the athletes must

change the circling direction.Variation: The athlete circlesthe ball around his/ her head.

Mobilisation of the upperextremities. The athletetries to integrate classicalwarm up moves into theexercise. Again, the speedand the quality of the moveshould not change.

PASSING DRILLS :: PASSING IN PAIRSIntro. The athletes face each other, thepassing distance is about four to five metresbut can be varied. The players move

forwards and backwards with small steps.

Possible variations::: double handed passes: over the head, chest passes, rugby passes (picture), etc.:: single handed passes: direct, indirectpasses, etc.:: passes in combination with additional

    exercises: jumps, press ups, etc.

4 variations. The passing distanceis still about four to five metres andthe players move forwards andbackwards with small steps.(1) The athlete starts passing withthe left hand and the left foot is inthe front. (2) Then he/ she passeswith the left hand and the right footis in the front (no picture). (3) Thenthe athlete passes with the righthand and the left foot is in thefront. (4) Now the athlete passeswith the right hand and the rightfoot is in the front. Then it repeats.Run around. The distancebetween the two athletes shouldbe bigger now. The athlete startsdribbling around the other athleteuntil he is in the position from

where he started before. He/ Shepasses the ball to the other athletewho has just started runningtowards the ball.

SMALL GAMESBoard - bounceball. The task of the gameis to shoot the handball on the basketballboard. If the ball touches the ground insidethe court, you score a point. The defendercan avoid a point by catching the ball, beforeit touches the ground.Variations. No dribbling, jump shots, etc.

Ten passes. The players of one team mustpass the ball ten times. The players of theother team try to get the ball. Once one teamhas gained ten points, the other team starts.

Negative Rugby. The player scores byrunning into the end zone or by passing toanother player who stands in the end zone. There is no foul. If the defender touches theplayer who is in charge of the ball, he gets afreethrow.

FULL COURT EXERCISEThe players stand in pairs behind each otherboth facing the coach who stands in themiddle of the court. The players try to keep adistance of about 2 metres between eachother. The first player with the ball is theattacker and dribbles twice towards thecoach along the middle line, he passes theball to the coach. The player behind theattacker is the defensive player and hefollows the attacker, trying to keep adistance of two metres. Then the defensiveplayer starts from the sideline/ middle linepoint, and the offensive player starts fromthe middle line tweo metres in front of thedefensive player. Both face the coach. Thecoach passes to the attacking player, whochooses one side of the court and tries toscore a goal. The task of the defensiveplayer is to touch the attacker once. Ifpossible, more times than once. The roles of the pair change after everyexercise.Variation.The first player has to duck, the

coach passes to the player at the back, whois now the attacker. The ducking player isthe defensive player.

Onepair starts from the right and one pair startsfrom the left. The players starting at the 6metres line are the defensive players, theplayers starting at the 9 metres line are theoffensive players. Only one offensive player

needs the ball. One offensive player dribblesthe ball around the coach, they cross behindthe coach and move in the direction of thegoal. Meanwhile the defensive players moveto the center of the court on the 6m line withlateral moves.
