This weekend we celebrate "Pentecost Sunday." Pentecost is our celebration and remembrance of the coming of the Holy Spirit into the world to give each of us the Grace to imitate Jesus in our lives. The Holy Spirit is also the heart of our One, Holy, Catholic and Apos-tolic Church (See Acts 15:28, describ-ing the Council of Jerusalem and its decisions being that not only of the

Apostles, but of the Holy Spirit as well). Jesus told the Apostles that he would send His Spirit, Who would teach and remind them of all the things He taught. Therefore, The Holy Spirit teaches us all things (first and foremost through His Church) and reminds us of what is truly good. He prompts us to love God and each other as Jesus did, and gives us the Grace to act upon those prompt-ings. Our devotion to living a life in Christ should be total, not partial. Reliance on the Holy Spirit at all times is neces-sary to live such a complete Christian life of discipleship. Of course, none of us has reached a point of complete imita-tion of Christ, so we continue to examine our lives and change, or convert, in accord with the prompting of the Ho-ly Spirit with our cooperation. The first way of knowing we are living in accord with The Holy Spirit is that we do all things that Jesus commanded us, beginning with the com-mandments as taught by Jesus and His Church. In doing that, we can learn to more fully love as Jesus loved.

Biography of Fr. Benjamin Pitre As was announced last weekend, we are excited to wel-come our new parochial vicar, Fr. Ben Pitre, beginning July 1, 2019. The following weekend, we will have a welcome reception for him in the Parish Life Center after the 11am Mass, so please mark your calendars. Until then, the fol-lowing is a brief biography of Fr. Pitre so you can know a little about his background. Fr. Pitre was a lifelong parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. He graduated from Opelousas Cath-olic School in 2002 and from LSU in 2006 with a B.S. in Elec-trical Engineering. He was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy upon graduation from LSU. He served on active duty for five years, which included an assign-ment on the submarine USS Olympia SSN 717 stationed in Pearl Harbor. After exiting submarine service, Fr. Pitre entered the seminary in 2012. He attended St. Joseph's Sem-inary College in Covington, earning a B.A. in Philoso-phy, and then attended The Pontifical North American Col-lege in Rome. Fr. Pitre earned a Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas. He was ordained a deacon in 2017 in Rome, and a priest in 2018 at St. John’s Cathedral. After his priestly or-dination, he returned to Rome to complete his licentiate studies, which will be completed this Fall. Fr. Pitre is the son of Ben and Suzanne Pitre from Prairie Ronde and the grandson of Clyde and Ruby Pitre (both deceased) from Opelousas and Harry (deceased) and Sue Hebert from Plaquemine.

ACTS is a parish-based retreat in which parishioners serve parishioners. The ACTS Retreat, an acronym for Adoration,

Community, Theology and Service, began in the 1980’s in San Antonio, Texas. The retreat’s goals are to strengthen our faith and its application in our daily life, to renew ourselves spiritually, to build strong, lasting friendships, and to grow in our relationship with our Lord, our parish and one anoth-er. The ACTS weekend is presented by lay Catholic women, with support provided by a Spiritual Director/companion or clergy. Parishioners who serve on ACTS retreats strive to provide the opportunity for our parish community to expe-rience, become, and share the Body of Christ. Once parish-ioners attend a St. Pius X Parish ACTS Retreat, they can help serve on the upcoming retreat. Please consider this wonder-ful gift to yourself or someone you love.
