Pastor’s Corner Alleluia, Alleluia!! The Lord is Ris-en! Today we begin our celebra-tion of Easter, the most important celebration in our Church and in our lives! We rejoice today be-cause of God's goodness to us in giving us the gift of eternal life. We now celebrate Easter for 50 days, 10 more than Lent, because we are an Easter people, living in the hope of the Resurrection! While we acknowledge the strug-

gle of our earthly life during the 40 days of Lent, we now celebrate the gift of eternal life for the 50 days of Easter. We especially celebrate Easter during this coming week, which is referred to the “Easter Octave.” The Easter Octave ends next Sunday, which is commonly referred to as Divine Mer-cy Sunday.

During the season of Lent, we celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation for 11 of our adults, and at the Easter Vigil we baptized and/or received into the Church another 11, who also made their First Communion and were Confirmed. Fittingly, during the Easter Season we will also celebrate two of the sacraments of initiation with our young people - First Communion and Confirmation. Please be sure to keep our candidates for these sacraments in your prayers as they make their final preparation for the reception of these sacra-mental signs of God's Love for them. The dates of these sacraments are: Wednesday, May 8, 2019 - Confirmations (6:30 p.m.) Saturday, May 11, 2019 - 1st Communion (9 & 11 a.m.)

Let us enjoy this season, and let the promise of eternal life fill our lives with joy!! Alleluia, Alleluia!! The Lord is Risen!

Message on Reception of Holy Communion

We welcome all to our Easter Celebration. Easter is such a wonderful and joyous time. One of the reasons for this joy is that our churches are full of people of good will, both Catholic and non-Catholic, praising God for the gift of eter-nal life given to each of us in Jesus' Resurrection from the dead. Therefore, it may be helpful to recall the dispositions neces-sary for one to receive Holy Communion. Following the dictates of Sacred Scripture (1 Cor 11:27), the Church teach-es that one should be properly disposed before receiving Holy Communion. In order to be properly disposed to re-ceive Holy Communion, one must be Catholic and, after a reflective examination, not aware of having committed grave or serious sin. If a Catholic has committed grave or serious sin, then Sacramental Confession should be made prior to reception of Holy Communion. One such serious sin is the failure to properly worship God by missing Mass on any Sunday or holy day of obligation without a serious reason. If one is not Catholic or is a Catholic not properly disposed to receive Holy Communion, please feel welcome to come forward and receive a blessing from the Minister of Com-munion. If one wants to receive a blessing, then simply let the minister know by placing your index finger over your mouth or crossing your arms over your chest so that the minister knows to impart the blessing as opposed to distrib-uting Holy Communion.

Adult Confirmation We congratulate these parishioners who recently received the Sacrament of Confirmation as candidates of the spring session of the Fast Track Adult Confirmation program. As Catholics, we believe that Confirmation establishes us more deeply in our relationship to God as His children, unites us more closely to Jesus Christ, pours out the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit into our soul, strengthens our bond with the Catholic Church, and gives us the power we need to be true soldiers of Christ through living, sharing, and defending our Faith. We extend our warmest thanks to Mrs. Dale LeBlanc for her work in coor-dinating the Adult Confirmation FAST TRACK program, and all that assisted with confirmation. A special thanks goes to Fr. Brady for his participation in each session. Adult Confirma-tion will be offered again in the fall. If you are interested or have questions, contact Mrs. Dale LeBlanc at [email protected].

Your gift will help to meet the ongoing need of investing energy and resources into the lifeblood of our Catholic future – our seminarians. Costs associated with the formation and education of our Diocese’s seminarians continue to in-crease due to the increased cost of education, as well as an increased number of men discerning the priesthood. The average cost to fund a seminarian’s education (tuition, fees, room and board, books, and healthcare) totals more than $30,000 annually. Since 2010, priestly vocations in our Diocese have increased by 68%.
