Aircraft Carriers

Note: India continues attempts to build or acquire additionalaircraft carriers. There are ongoing discussions about the possibletransfer of the Russian Gorshkov , probably refitted as a full-deckVSTOL carrier. This sale has been reported to be "imminent" forseveralyears, and there is no reason to believe it will actually take place.India has also announced plans to build a new "Air Defense Ship" (i.e.small carrier) of 32,000 tons displacement and 250 meters length. The"imminent" construction of this vessel has been announced regularlysince1997, but no action has been taken.
