• History of attempts of DSV – Part 1
DSV founded Jan. 1987 to overcome problems in heath care system [long time to diagnose, misdiagnose, no interdisciplinary treatment …]
Establish regularly patient information on Sarcoidosis since August 1987 [published by PO with medical advisory board]
First patient-doctor symposium & 1st DSV continuing education for MD at international MEDICA congress 1988
Yearly continuing education for MD at medical congresses MEDICA Dusseldorf since 1988 – (20 x) MEDCongress Baden-Baden (17 x) [2-3 experts, 80 – 120 patients, ~10 doctors driven by PO]
Official certification by Chamber of Doctors 2-3 education points (Landesärztekammer)
Attempts 1988 – 1994 to introduce Sarcoidosis to the academic medical student courses via approbation curricula in Human Medicine, because only 10 Min. of Internal Medicine are spent on the whole group of 25 ILD, where Sarcoidosis is only one
No acceptance by officials “First teach common diseases”

Initiative of PO Collaboration with Sarcoidosis doctor and his hospital 8 medical experts giving lectures12 doctors from the hospital and the region 50 Patients [driven by PO, case discussions from the audience] [certification with 7 education points by Chamber of Doctors]

Initiative of PO and medical teacherCollaboration with Sarcoidosis doctor and his hospital 1 medical expert providing one lecture time slot (2 hours) 12 students from the university course internal medicine9 Patients with different types and organ involvements of the disease and 6 relatives [driven by PO, case discussions from the audience]
Case stories, questions and answer were written down for later evaluation by teacher and students
Patients reported their way to the diagnose as well as experiences with different treatments
Students discussed options to decrease diagnostic latency and ideas to better monitor treatment and managing side effects
Students realized the possibilities to access directly expert and reference centers for the group of RD which Sarcoidosis belong to
Response of student showed that the 2 hours are very intense learning

Training session for students Professor is already engaged Special lecture with project character Positive collaboration with self-help patient organization or group

Where ever doctors or medical teachers or Medical Society for continuing education allow us to take a active part in training, we should take the chance.
Both, training for students as well as continuing education for MD, shall be used to enhance doctor’s awareness on RD.
Training Package for single RD or related groups of RD shall accompany a training session

The coordination of patients and the aspects to address shall be coordinated by PO in collaboration with the university and medical teacher
The Training Package shall be in responsibility of the PO.
