CHANGES TO THE ROAD NETWORK20 JUNE – LATE JULY 2018

Changes to the road, tram and bicycle networks are required to keep Melbourne moving during construction.

To enable construction of the new Anzac Station, St Kilda Road has been reduced to one lane in each direction to divert traffic and trams around the construction site. Kings Way has been identified as the primary diversion route during these works. To ensure that Kings Way can cater for the predicted increase in traffic, it is essential that changes are made to improve the efficiency of the network.

What we are doing

Kings Way and York Street intersection

Late June to mid-July (approximately 8 - 10 nights within this period)

• Removing existing kerb and installing new kerbing on Kings Way near York Street

• Water blasting existing line markings and installation of new line markings around the intersection

• Traffic signals works will involve:

° Relocation of existing posts with a mobile crane

° Installation of new posts with a mobile crane

° Cutting of signal detector loops using a road saw

° Installing new signal programming

° Removal of existing street lighting and installation of new street light at the intersection of Kings Way and York Street. This work will involve Citipower removal of the existing lighting and trenching works to connect the new lighting.

Kings Way and Sturt Street, Park Street and Albert Road intersections

Wednesday 20 June to early July (approximately 2 - 3 nights within this period at various locations around intersection)• Traffic signals works will involve:

° Cutting of signal detector loops using a road saw

° Installing new signal programming.

• Water blasting existing line markings and new line marking works around the Kings Way and Sturt Street intersection and on Sturt Street and at the Sturt Street and Dorcas Street intersection

• The Sturt Street southbound approach to Kings Way will be closed while signal loop detector works are carried out. Please follow detour signs.

Various locations on Kings Way between Albert Road and CityLink on-ramp

Wednesday 20 June to late July (approximately 6 nights within this period at various locations on Kings Way)• Signage relocation and installing new traffic

directional signage at various locations along Kings Way to assist with driver decision making which will involve:

° Using an NDD truck to locate services and install poles

° Concreting the poles into place

° Signage installation.

When• 8pm - 5am, Sundays to Thursdays

• 10pm - 5am, Fridays to Saturdays.

What to be aware of

• These works need to be undertaken at night to minimise impacts on the road network

• Traffic signals will not operate for one night at each intersection while signal upgrade works take place. Drivers should follow detour signs in place

• Lane closures will be required to safely perform the works. Drivers can expect some delays

• Variable message boards will be used to provide advance notice of works at each location

• A site compound to support these works will be established adjacent to 142 Dorcas Street. This site will occupy approximately 7 car parking spaces for the duration of these works

• There will be intermittent periods of medium – high level noise associated with the use of the road saw and NDD trucks

• Night works will comply with the Metro Tunnel Environmental Performance Requirements. The noisiest activities will be prioritised to occur as early as possible in the evening

• Signal programming which requires the isolation of signals during works will be carried out last.
