Dear Woodland Families!

It is my FAVORITE time of year! I absolutely loved the Fall colors and it serves as another remind-er of how wonderful our four seasons are in Wisconsin. With that, I cannot believe how much learning has occurred at Woodland, and we have already completed our first quarter! I continue to see strong growth for all of our students, and I am proud of the education that we offer our commu-nity. Woodland is a great place to learn and I am so glad that you are part of it!

Now that we are well into the school year, I know many of you are anxious for our Parent/Teacher Conferences coming up in the next few weeks. These conference times are great opportunities for some face-to-face dialogue between you and your child’s teacher, emphasizing their outstanding growth, and also some targeted areas for improvement. These conference times go extremely fast, so if you have further questions following these conferences, I encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher. Also, please feel free to send in questions ahead of time so that our teachers can be best-prepared for their time with you. At Woodland, we value our open communication as together, we will continue to positively impact the learning of our children. One of the best parts of the Kimberly Area School District and Woodland Elementary School is that we simply never give up on any child. Our teachers are working daily to adjust for the individual needs of our students. Teachers meet throughout the week and analyze student learning data with their colleagues, so that we can make the best decisions for what our students need. During staff development days, our teachers are continuing these conversations and collaboration around stu-dent learning. Additionally, we also regularly talk about our students’ social/emotional needs as we believe in educating the whole child, and work hard to have an environment in which all kids are successful. We pride ourselves each day in knowing what our students need, and then delivering the instruction that best fits those needs. At Woodland, we will continue to ensure that every stu-dent is given the opportunity to reach their potential. We believe in your children and cannot wait to see them develop into positive citizens within our community!

As we enter the winter months, please remember to have your children check the lost and found, located in our cafeteria, and in our three classroom hallways. We tend to get many items left over the noon hour, and I know these items easily get lost during transition or recess times. Please feel free to stop in after school if you would like to look for some lost items! Thank you again for your continued support of our school. As we approach Thanksgiving, I am thankful for such a caring community, and specifically for you giving us your children to be part of our school. I hope to see many of you at our “Breakfast with a Buddy” on November 22nd! Woodland is a great place to learn and I am so excited that your children are part of it!

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL CONTINUED

12:00 PM NOON RELEASE - FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 17TH

Parent/Teacher Conferences are fast approaching for grades 5K-4. Conferences will be held on

Monday, November 20th, and Thursday, November 30

th, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. We have

had a great response to the on-line registration process. If you have not already signed up,

please click here to access the online conference scheduler.

Please note: Students will be released at 2:00 pm on conference days. Unlike other Fri-

day 2:00 pm release days, childcare is not available unless your child is enrolled in the

YMCA after school program.

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES

There will be a 12:00 pm release on Friday, November 17th. All elementary bus students will be transported at 12:00 pm. The YMCA does provide after school care at 12:00 noon. Enjoy the extended weekend!

BOOK SWAP

MUSIC NOTES

Mark your calendars! 1st and 2nd grade will be having their winter concert on Thursday, December 7th at

1:30 pm and 6:30 pm. 3rd and 4th grade will be having their spring concert on

Thursday, March 8th at 1:30 pm and 6:30 pm. 5K will be having their spring concert on Friday, March

9th with times being announced in future notes.

Woodland Elementary School will be holding its next book swap on Wednesday, November 29th. A book swap is an event where students bring in a used book to donate and they get to

take a “new to them” book home to keep. This is an optional activity. Volunteers are needed to help make this happen. Please click here to sign up to help on November 29th. Thank you!

Mark your calendars! On Friday, January 19th, the Lawrence Vikings take on Aurora

University and it is WOODLAND NIGHT! All students and their families can get in

free with a special ticket (which will be distributed closer to the date). We are on

the look out for any hockey players in our school. A few lucky Woodland Wolves will

be invited onto the ice with Lawrence players during introductions.

Some of the team will come visit during lunch on Thursday, January 18th, to sign au-

tographs and meet the kids. We will make announcements, and reminders will be

sent out closer to the date.

If you know of any hockey players who are interested in being put in the drawing for a chance to go on the

ice with the team, please let Mrs. Schaut know.

WOODLAND NIGHT - LAWRENCE VIKINGS HOCKEY

As you know, nearly 500 students are part of the learning community at Woodland Elementary School each day. With that, this is an opportunity for us to remind eve-ryone about the safety of our students during pick-up and drop-off times. All busing occurs in the back of the school, which keeps them separate from the parent pick-up out front. If you are picking up or dropping off your children, please see the re-minders below that we use to keep all students safe, and to keep the traffic flow-ing. Thanks in advance for helping us keep our children safe. Please adhere to the signage we have for "no parking" areas. Please use the "yellow curb" on the school side for all pick-ups and drop-

offs. Vehicles should not be parked in this location, but rather should have a driver waiting. This also is meant to be a brief stop so that traffic flows. If your child is waiting in the vehicle until the first bell rings, please pull into a designat-ed parking spot.

Please keep the center lane (between the curb parking and angled parking) flow-

ing free. Stopping in this area to pick-up a child is a safety concern as there are cars moving out from the parked positions. This lane should be used for vehicles coming in, and departing from campus.

PARENT SURVEY

Reminder: Survey For Parents and Guardians: Our District believes in a culture of continuous improvement in or-der to help every student reach their potential. As part of our im-provement process, we are reaching out to our students’ parents and guardians to help us understand what we are doing well and where we can improve. To accomplish this goal, all parents were emailed a survey on Wednesday, November 8, from School Per-ceptions (the company we hired to conduct the survey). We value your thoughts and strongly encourage you to participate in this important survey to help us shape the direction of our fu-ture. The survey will close on Wednesday, November 22, at 5:00 pm. Together, we will continue to improve to better serve our stu-dents. If you did not receive an email invitation to complete the survey please check your “spam/junk” folder. Kimberly Area Youth Basketball Club

Basketball “Skills & Drills” Camp

Grades – Girls 1st & 2nd / Boys K – 2nd

The Kimberly Area Youth Basketball Club in coordination with the Kimberly Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball Programs are once again pleased to offer a developmental “Skills and Drills”

program. The program will be under the direction of the varsity coaches and players and stresses teaching basic basketball fundamentals in a fun, non-competitive environment and has been extremely successful in developing our youth for many years. The program runs for 6

Saturdays during the winter months at Woodland School, see times and dates below.

Papermaker Youth Wrestling Club

The Kimberly Youth Wrestling Program is open to all youth in grades

4K through 6th grade.

IN OUR PROGRAM Everyone participates.

The person is more important than the athlete.

Your child is taught the value of hard work, dedication, self-discipline, commitment, and

perseverance.

TEAMWORK. Supporting and helping one another achieve success will be stressed. TEAM –

Winning and Losing is a personal experience. Your child will benefit from both, learning humility

FAMILY RESOURCE INFORMATION/

OPPORTUNITIES TO DONATE

You may or may not be aware that the Kimberly Area School

District has two clothes closets that are located in two of our

schools. One of the clothes closets is at Mapleview

Intermediate (920-788-7910) and the other is at Westside

Elementary (920-739-3578). If you would like to donate or are

in need of some assistance with resources, you can contact

Mapleview or Westside. In addition to the clothes, Woodland is

frequently being offered ways to support our families if they

should fall upon economic hardship. Please reach out to your

child’s teacher or school counselor if you are in need of any

assistance throughout the year.

schedule? Have you considered becoming a substitute teacher?

The Kimberly Area School District is seeking talented Substitute Teachers who want to join a team of

ambitious professionals who help all students succeed. Sometimes, our educators are away from

their classrooms for things like professional development or when they are ill. That’s when we need

talented individuals to continue providing a high-quality education to our students.

Qualifications:

Current Wisconsin Educator License

-Or- a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited Institution of High Education, completion of Substitute Teacher Training and current Substitute Teacher Permit.

Have a Bachelor’s Degree but not a Substitute Teacher Permit? Contact us at (920) 788-7900 to learn more about pursuing training to obtain a Substitute Teacher Permit.

Substitute Teachers new to KASD are supported by helpful District

staff at each building. The District uses an online Substitute Teacher

System (AESOP) where you can view and customize subbing positions you are most interested in for

your subbing career. KASD offers a competitive daily pay rate for our substitute teachers.
