WOODLAND ELEMENTARY NEWSLETTER August 5, 2020 MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dates to Remember Sept. 1 - 1st Day of School Sept. 18 - 2:00 PM Release Sept. 15 - PTO Meeting at 6:30 pm Sept. 25 - 12:00 pm Release Sept. 29 - Picture Re-take Day The Kimberly Area School District does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, naonal origin, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital status, parental status, sexual orientaon, sex, (including transgender status, change of sex or gender identy), or physical, mental, emoonal, or learning disability ("Protected Classes") in any of its stu- dent program and acvies. Dear Woodland Elementary Families, It is hard to believe that we are in August already! That means the school year is right around the corner. As you are aware, we have been working to make sure that we have safe and strong edu- cational programing for those returning this Fall, and for those who have selected to learn on- line. I am more than optimistic about the year and confident that we will have a successful and safe year of learning. As I have said in the past, I truly believe that all of our children are ahead, not behind, and I know that someday they will do amazing things for our community and world. This I know! I am sure you have many questions about how we will operate this school year. We will continue to prioritize physical distancing, social grouping, and risk mitigation as outlined in my last parent communication. Those are big buckets, but I assure you that we have revamped just about every procedure at our school to make sure we are using those guidelines in all aspects of the day. In this short newsletter, we have added a few specific updates for things you will need to know prior to school starting. Please take a moment to review these changes. As the year progresses, we will be sure to communicate other changes with you so you are aware. Again, this is not a compre- hensive list, but rather what I felt needed to get into your hands before the first day of school. I want to again say thank you to all of you for your continued support of our school, our students, and our staff. These are uncharted waters that we are heading into, but I hope you have the same confidence in me, that I have in my staff to create meaningful and safe experiences for our stu- dents. As I have said in the past, Woodland is a special place and I am so glad that you are part of it. While times are tough, I am excited that my own kids also get to experience and be part of the Kimberly Area School District. Take care and please call or email with any questions about the up- coming year. Go Wolves and Makers! Timothy M. Doleysh, Ph.D. Principal

The Kimberly Area School District does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital status, parental status, sexual orientation, sex, (including transgender status, change of sex or gender identity), or physical, mental, emotional, or learning disability ("Protected Classes") in any of its stu-dent program and activities.

Dear Woodland Elementary Families, It is hard to believe that we are in August already! That means the school year is right around the corner. As you are aware, we have been working to make sure that we have safe and strong edu-cational programing for those returning this Fall, and for those who have selected to learn on-line. PICK-UP & DROP-OFF CHANGES

There will be changes to Pick-Up and Drop-Off Procedures this com-ing year. We are asking that parents not enter the school for pick-up or drop-off at the start or end of each day. We are also asking that stu-dents not congregate in the AM, and should arrive no earlier than 8:25 AM at which point we will have them go directly to their classrooms to start the day. Parents who have to see the office staff may enter the office as usual. The same changes will apply in the PM. We are ask-ing parents not to congregate in the vestibule. In the event of inclem-ent weather, we asking parents to remain in their vehicles and use our pick-up and drop-off lanes to get their children.

All 5K Pick-Up and Drop-Offs will occur at the end of our 5K hallway, near the 5K play-ground on the north side of school. Parents may park in the main parking lot and doors will open at 8:25 AM, and again at 3:35 PM. We are asking parents not to enter the build-ing. Student exchanges will occur outside the door with the assistance of our 5K staff. If a child has to leave during the day (i.e. appointments, etc.), parents may enter the office as usual and the office staff will call down to have the child meet their parents.

This year we will not be holding our traditional in-person “Meet the Teacher” Day as we have in the past. In order to keep everyone safe, we will be using the following format and timeline.

Teachers will call or “Zoom” each student so that they have the opportunity to meet prior to school starting. Teachers will reach out to schedule these times.

On August 26th, students with last names starting A-N may come to school any-

time between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM to drop supplies off. On August 27th, students with last names starting O-Z may come to school any-

time between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM to drop supplies off. Families should enter the main doors of our school, and walk directly to their

child’s classroom. Students will then drop off supplies at their cubbies into the bag labeled with their name. These cubbies are located in the hall near your child’s classroom and these bags will be in place and labeled when you arrive.

Those families unable to make the drop-off date can bring their supplies with them

the first day of school. For those families who ordered School Supply Kits, the kits will be placed in the

halls ahead of time.

ADDITIONAL FORMS & INFORMATION

Additional information including optional forms, school supply lists, and PTO news can be found on the KASD website at Students & Parents > Forms.

VISITORS & GUESTS

We love our school community! With that, we will have limited visitors or guests on campus, as we again want to minimize the exposure to our students and staff. We are limiting lunch visitors, classroom volunteers, etc. so that only essential individu-als are in our school. Thank you for your understanding as we work to keep every-one safe.

WATER BOTTLES

We are encouraging students to bring water bottles to school with them this

year. Please make sure bottles are labeled with the student’s name. Students

will be able to refill water bottles at the fountains and water filling stations

around school. Thank you!

LUNCH SUPERVISORS NEEDED
