Greetings Grace by the Sea Family,

Your call will become clear as your mind istransformed by the reading of Scripture andthe internal work of God's Spirit. The Lordnever hides His will from us. In time, as youobey the call first to follow, your destiny willunfold before you. The difficulty will lie inkeeping other concerns from diverting yourattention.

Adult Education

Fr. Paul will begin a new topic for AdultEducation on Sunday mornings at 9:15 am.The title is, "I'm A Fool For Christ, Whose FoolAre You!" This is a video testimony of JohnJohnWimberWimber. This should be lots of fun and entertaining as well as educational.Fr. Paul will split the video up through several weeks so we will have timeto talk and ask questions afterwards. I, personally, am very much lookingforward to this as I have read several of John Wimber's books. He has agreat sense of humor and has quite a testimony coming from the Californiamusic scene as he was responsible for the formation of the RighteousBrothers.

We received an email from Peggy Hickinbotham with thefollowing prayer request. She, Mark and Alyssa will be on thisMission trip.

We also received an update on Tim & Roxanne AultT im & Roxanne Ault , MAFmissionaries from Peggy:

I wanted to give you an update on Tim and Roxanne Ault, MAFmissionaries. They have found a Brazilian caregiver for Roxanne. Her nameis Heysa and Tim says "they have a keeper!". As you can imagine, this is apriceless blessing for them. Thank you so much for praying for them Because of Roxanne's health, Tim has had to give up flying for now. Hewrites, "I am truly blessed to be able to continue to be a significant part ofthe ministry here in Brazil. I LIKE (caps are his) my work as the managerof the parts department for the Manaus base. It is not the type of work thatis interesting to talk about, and most people would equate it with the job ofproof reading to make sure all of the "i's" have been dotted and the "t's"crossed. But, if we are going to keep the airplanes that enable our ministryin the air so that they can continue to meet the needs of the folks we serve,my job is worth my effort. I am still an integral part of multiplying theeffort to share the Gospel with those who have never heard. I thank Godfor the people that were providing parts for me all the years I enjoyedservice as a pilot!" The letter goes on to say, in reference to balancing his care for Roxanne withhis ministry responsibilities, "I'm hanging in there. I am able to handle theroutine of work and home life, yet I battle against impatience and angerwhich seem to rear their ugly heads from time to time. Please pray for methat I might greatly demonstrate the fruits of the Spirit." Tim and Roxanne go on to say, "The prayers of all those who remember usbefore our God are an extreme blessing and encouragement to us, and weappreciate them immensely! Prayer is what you can do for us. We want togive glory to God with our lives. That is all that really matters! The onlyway to do this is the power of God's Spirit working in and through us."

ReflectionsReflectionsSIMPLY OUTRAGEOUS

For most [all] of my life I have lived well within the bounds ofrespectability, being rather conservative in nature and outlook, and actually, rather shy [yes, it's true]. Consequently, I have never sought the limelightthough by vocation and circumstance it is precisely in the limelight that Iquite often find myself. If ever there has been anything about me that I[usually others] might deem outrageous, it might be some of my thinkingabout church related issues, most specifically how church ought to be done.I have never been given [naturally] to ostentation. I am really just a simpleand rather private kind of guy.

Outrageous is the word used to describe anything that passes outsidereasonable bounds, and is therefore highly unusual, unconventional, evenshocking or extravagant, perhaps grossly offensive. I do not know if I haveever done anything outrageous in my entire life; indeed, everything I haveever done, or said [let's leave the thinking part for another time] seemsquite within the ordinary. Some might call this rather boring; I am contentto call it my life.

I am not tempted by the online ads listing outrageous things that you canpurchase. For 6.5 million Euros you could buy 1100 acres spread over threeislands "complete with a small village, three manors and a vineyard that canbottle 228,000 bottles of your own personal wine every year [I couldn'tpossible drink that much even if I had the desire]. For "$36,650 you candescend 12,465 feet beneath the sea aboard one of only three commercialsubmarines that can reach 20,000 feet without crumpling under thepressure [still too narrow a margin for my liking] and visit the originalTitanic [I'm content with watching the movie]. For about $8,000 more thanyou would pay to visit the Titanic you can purchase a personal visit withTony Bennett. Tanks [that's right, those big Army things] can be purchasedfrom the former Soviet Union, Canada [I didn't know we had tanks] orArgentina. The list goes on: there are plenty of outrageous things topurchase and/or to do, if such was in your mind or make-up.

I don't think Jesus was ever deliberately outrageous, at least not in thesense of deliberately seeking to draw attention to Himself. The picture youget in reading the Gospels is quite the opposite for He certainly attractedattention through the miracles that He wrought [you don't often get a chanceto use that word], but it was compassion that motivated Him. Yet He wasconsidered outrageous because His teaching and actions often trampledover the accepted religious norms and thinking of the day. He disturbedthose in authority [both religious and secular] because He bowed only to theauthority and will of His Father, continuing relentlessly to do and say those

Page 12: with the city in its heart: To be a A church in the heart ...gracebythesea.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Newsletter-12-June-… · 12/06/2016  · Isaiah Stephens (son of Chrissie

things that defined His mission regardless of public opinion or ofconsequences that He knew too well would eventually be visited upon Him.One is given cause to wonder if His visit to the home of Simon the Phariseewas anything less than an occasion for entrapment arranged by His host[LK 7.36-50]. How else could such a notoriously disreputable woman gainentrance? Her outrageous gesture of love and devotion [she most certainlymust have encountered Jesus on an earlier occasion], by washing His feetwith her tears and drying them with her hair, was equally matched by theoutrageous rudeness of Simon towards Jesus [44-46]. A lot of outrageousstuff was going on in the house that night., but nothing was moreoutrageous than the response of Jesus towards the woman. Despite herbackground [which He apparently knows about throughout the encounter]Jesus allows her to approach Him, receives her devotion, her touch [whichwould constitute Him unclean] and then - this is the really outrageous part -He declares her forgiven!

I am so glad that Jesus is outrageous in His offering of forgiveness and inHis acceptance of even the worst of sinners because I know that even in mybest moments, when I am at the top of my game [so to speak] I am stillnumbered among them and like them, in desperate need of His mercy andHis grace.

Nicholas Ridley NICHOLAS RIDLEY, English bishop and martyr, was descended from an oldNorthumberland family. The second son of Christopher Ridley of UnthankHall, near Willemoteswick, in that county, he was born in the beginning ofthe 16th century. From a school at Newcastle-on-Tyne he was sent about1518 to Pembroke Hall, Cambridge, being supported there by his uncle, DrRobert Ridley (d. 1536), and specially distinguishing himself in Greek.Having graduated M.A. in 1526, he went to study at the Sorbonne in Parisand at Louvain, and on his return to Cambridge he was appointed juniortreasurer of his college. Billy Graham Offers Key Advice forSickening Political Season

Are you sick and tired of politicians and dirtypolitical campaigns? Considering not voting atall because you don't want to choose betweenthe "lesser of two evils"?

Evangelist Billy Graham offers advice for thosewho don't think one vote makes any difference:

Let me ask you a question: What would happen to our nation if everyonedecided not to vote? You know the answer-before long, we'd lose ourfreedoms and be ruled by a power-hungry dictatorship. No system ofgovernment is perfect, including ours-but all it will take to make it collapseis an indifferent citizenry.

But I also urge you to vote for another reason: I believe it is a God-givenresponsibility. When Jesus walked this Earth, the whole civilized world wasunder the authority of one individual: the Roman emperor (or Caesar). Hewasn't elected by popular vote, nor did ordinary people have an opportunityto express their views through the ballot box. And the Roman governmentwasn't perfect; in fact, it promoted paganism and could be brutal.

Page 14: with the city in its heart: To be a A church in the heart ...gracebythesea.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Newsletter-12-June-… · 12/06/2016  · Isaiah Stephens (son of Chrissie

And yet Jesus taught that people still had a responsibility to encourage andsupport their government in every way they possibly could. He said, "Giveto Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's" (Matt. 22:21). Thesame principle is true for us today: We should do everything we can toencourage and support good government-including voting. Understand theissues ... know where the candidates stand on them ... ask God to guideyou-and then vote.

Beyond that, however, pray for our nation and its leaders-not just thepresident, but all who've been entrusted with public office. It's the mostimportant thing you can do. The Bible commands us to pray for "all those inauthority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness andholiness" (1 Tim. 2:2).

Why You Should Invite Sinners IntoYour Inner Circle In the earlier years of his ministry, BillyGraham was frequently criticized forassociating with members of Christian traditions different from his own. Hedefended himself with this poem:

He drew a circle that shut me out;Rebel, heretic, a thing to flout. But love and I had the wit to win,He drew a circle that took me in.

From A Shepherd's Heart

Not too long ago, I was in a discussion with awoman who shared with me about talking witha teenager in a major city in the U.S. who hadnever heard the name Jesus!

Page 15: with the city in its heart: To be a A church in the heart ...gracebythesea.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Newsletter-12-June-… · 12/06/2016  · Isaiah Stephens (son of Chrissie

Can you imagine a child growing up in Canada or the U.S. and neverhearing the name of Jesus? How many children and teenagers live or attendschool within one mile of your church? How many of those children andyouth are unchurched and do not know about Jesus? Yet, Jesus said, "Letthe children come to me."

We live in a time when our children and youth (even in the Church) aremissing out on the greatest story in human history. Rather than hearingabout Jesus, these young people are being inculturated with ungodly andunbiblical attitudes and behaviors. Their childhood is being taken from themby the fracturing of the family, their exposure to sin through television andthe internet, and the lack of moral teaching and discipline in their schools. The "innocence of childhood" is quickly becoming a faint legend from thepast.

What are we followers of Jesus to do about this? What can we do aboutthis?

First, pray. Ask God to intervene and help you reach the children in yourneighborhood and community (Lk.10:2). Second, make disciples of yourchildren and your youth "teaching them to observe all that he hascommanded you" (Mt.28:20). Third, equip the parents and families in yourcongregation and community with teaching and resources on how to parent, disciple their children, and model godly parenting. Fourth, creatively reachout to the children and teenagers in your neighborhood and schools.

On a Provincial level, it is time to invest in staffing and resources to betterassist dioceses and parishes to reach the children and teens in theircommunities. Somehow, someway, we as a Province need to be equippingour people to minister to the teenagers and children in our communities. Will you join me in praying that the Lord will provide the people andresources to do this?
